You are here

Back again, this time with all the data!

Data corruption combined with an operating system upgrade created an unstable database. I tried rolling back to older database snapshots, but none were working until I got all the way back to March 2024. Once I got that working, I tried applying the now stable templates to the latest backup. It failed. However, the previous one worked!

Drupal 7 goes End Of Life January 2025, so a software update is inevitable. Hopefully it won't suck. Wish me luck...

You are clearly a genius.

Pfffft! I wish!

Hope it goes well.,, also i wish you a merry xmas, hope its a banger.

I'll bang'er all right! Sorry, guv, I've gobbed on your carpet.

Merry Christmas to everyone, and fingers crossed that all works well!

Thanks for the huge work!
I can feel your situation. All the new programs -we are forced to use them - are bigger, but not better. This is a squirrel wheel we are forced into. And... no one is willing to pay for it.
Again, thanks for you, and marry christmas to everyone!

Thank you dear Concen, this torrent website is truly a gem for us and our friendly community. This torrent website is one of a kind. Truly you are a life-safer!! Merry Christmas to everyone!!

Good Luck!

I de-drupalized a site recently. I couldn't find anything redeeming about drupal. The only thing that seemed like a nice touch is that file extensions do not appear in the adress bar for pages... but it's hard to justify using drupal just for that. It's a nice touch for human readability or search engines maybe. Anyway, since I went through it I thought I'd throw you a tip; you may find that throwing the code below into your .htaccess keeps the links working (I'm sure there are links out there on the internet) for files with extensions behind the scenes but still not appearing so in the adress bar (in my case for PHP pages):

RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^([^\.]+)$ $1.php [NC,L]

Thanks for the tip!

Do you have a preferred CMS?

it's what runs the best torrent sites and seems open source

This website is a gem. Happy New Year to all of you!

I have the same challenge on my web site. I also use Drupal 7.
Wishing you luck!

Good luck with the upgrade.

Can you run a second, staging server on your existing hosting?

Like test everything on www2 or something?

I can, and plan to.

Just because Drupal 7 is no longer supported, that's not necessarily a reason to leave it.

Is there really any reason to think there are security vulnerabilites? Have there been any major ones?

There's no shame in just keeping it going on forever.

That said, I wonder if there are better solutions like Gazelle etc. Also something that would support a little more $$$ coming your way.

There are several reasons to move on from Drupal, my biggest one being I hate PHP. I might leave this up in read only mode once the new site is built. There will likely be a subscription only section with lots of goodies...

Everyone loves a good torrent. But not everyone recognizes how hard it is to run a website all by yourself. Just want to say that we appreciate you, this site, and we're rooting for you and for ConCen.
