Taking a cue from Reddit, I am starting a "Today I learned" forum where I, even if nobody else, will post things I learned today.

So there.

The only pet raccoon kept in the Whitehouse as a pet was 'Rebecca', owned by US president Calvin Coolidge and First Lady Grace Coolidge.

We all know that the amazing gnostic texts known as the Nag Hammadi library was found buried in the sands for close to 2000 years. If you watch any documentary about this, you see some camel herder out in the desert ferreting around in the dirt.
TIL from Peter Tompkins that they were discovered by two Arabs "who had just murdered a rival, dismembered his body and eaten his heart"
It explains so much!

the most downloaded files here on Concen relates to 'binaural beats' and was posted by ryba777, someone I never met

coming in much lower, the most popular download I shared was the Forbidden Library pack

Skinwalker Ranch is also really popular.

Y'all are a bunch of freaks, what!

ryba777

I'd say over 75% of ryba777's uploads were related to Satanic mind control, and also these "binaural beats". A fishy combination, if you ask me!

But I think the beats register as most downloaded because of the other trackers that were added to ConCen's.

I still haven't really watched this Skinwalker Ranch show people are raving about. I also always found that place and research a little fishy lol

I was just reading up on melatonin deficiencies because I have crazy sleep circadian rhythms, essentially from being nocturnal for many years...

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3354573/

"Melatonin (N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine) has been discovered as a hormone of the pineal gland, but it is meanwhile known to be also synthesized in various other organs, tissues, and cells [1–3]. Pineal melatonin is secreted, in young and middle-aged individuals, in a circadian fashion, with a high rhythm amplitude and a prominent nocturnal maximum. Melatonin from extrapineal sites often oscillates with considerably lower amplitudes. Some of the extrapineal sources are, according to current knowledge, of particular importance, either in quantitative terms, such as the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), which contains several hundred times more melatonin than the pineal gland [1–6], or, with regard to functional aspects, some areas of the central nervous system (CNS) [3, 7] and several leukocytes [1, 3, 8, 9]. The physiological significance of most other sites of melatonin biosynthesis is poorly understood. "

I am slowly resetting mine.

What I've figured out is basically:

3mg-12mg Melatonin before bedtime - once or twice a week, I'm working up to more.

A good B Complex - I break the tablet in half and take that nearly every hour from about 8am-3pm!
+ 80mg-160mg vitamin C each time too.

Niacin - 50mg-100mg most mornings

Masses of live yogurt or kefir, whey protein powder, bananas and Maca for breakfast. like about 40g whey powder, in a smoothie. I add other stuff like fungi and berry powders.

Interesting

I was also just reading up on how to boost melatonin in your diet, which seems one of the safest ways to do it, if the synthetic melatonin doesn't work properly for issues of not binding to receptor sites efficiently or whatever. Thanks for sharing your info.

Are you recovering from nocturnalism or from general insomnia? I used to have a 5am to 3pm sleep cycle, but now I have delayed onset of REM cycle, so the window of time my brain is secreting its own melatonin starts to get later and later, until I have to reset it somehow by doing an all day/all night-er type of thing. After a while it can turn into insomnia where one only sleeps a couple hours at a time, with no full REM cycle and 8-10 hour sleep. Which probably isn't the greatest thing in the world!

Natural melatonin.

So I actually switch between taking Now Foods 3mg Melatonin from iHerb, and taking Montmorency Cherry Juice. It's more like a syrup, and knocks me out just as good as the pills.

I've actually not noticed trouble sleeping, but what I realised is that i wasn't spending enough time in deep sleep, due to mercury poisoning from fillings, and parasites and other infections from that causing an over-active vagus nerve. So basically agitation from that stopped me getting good quality sleep... and yet I was always tired and could pass out pretty fast.

Honestly I don't know what would cause or what to do with that. If you try and get into a natural cycle, maximum sunlight during daylight hours, and eliminate all but red light the moment the sun goes down, keep caffeine and sugar to before 12pm, I would hope the body would adjust itself back in a few days or weeks.

TheCorsair00
SSRIs and the pineal gland

In regards to what caused my sleep cycle disturbance, the short answer is 'Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors' reinforcing a nocturnal schedule, subsequent withdrawals and side effects, insomnia and then an addiction to pharmaceutical sleeping medications.

But you're right, natural ways to reverse the cycle do work and have in the past, and I do things like wear blue-wavelength blocking glasses before bedtime and get sunlight (in the summer), as well as supplement Vitamin D and all the others as much as I can.

I think I would like to try the natural melatonin dietary methods, like cherry juice. Exercise and things like meditation or "toning" have also been proven to generate natural melatonin.

today I learned that, technically, Denver didn't "decriminalize" magic mushrooms, they passed a vote to make them "the lowest priority crime for law enforcement"

Mushroom law

I think that's what happened in Vancouver as well. A bunch of magic mushroom dispensaries have popped up in the past year since this new law, and you can even order them in the mail. Progress!

zoopenhoff
Can you forward to UK.

Especially interested in tinctures or other preserved forms.

just kidding, although I'm not.

TheCorsair00
Microdoses

Initially the main dispensaries only sold microdoses, and they still sort of hide behind that, but if you read more carefully on their site, they also sell larger amounts. Including a strain called McKenna! 14g for 140 dollars or something like that. https://mushroomdispensary.com/products/

devil's tower

today I learned that Devil's Tower -- the featured prominently in 'Close Encounters of a Third Kind' and created out of mashed potatoes -- was America's first national monument established under the Antiquities Act in 1906 by President Theodore Roosevelt.

Jefferson on media bias

today I learned that Thomas Jefferson, wrestling with the complexities of media bias in 1807, recommended that editors should divide their newspapers into four sections labeled "truth," "probabilities," "possibilities," and "lies," and observed that the first section would be the smallest and the last the largest, and the last would be read with the most relish.

In 1819, he grumbled, "Advertisements contain the only truths to be relied on in a newspaper."

Taiwan & US relations

today I learned that during WWII Taiwan's leader represented China among the five Allied Powers, and also the founding of the United Nations. Taiwan occupied the permanent seat in the UN Security Council during the Cold War, and was also helped by the US and other pro-Western countries to prevent a mainland invasion in 1953/54. Today, these facts are largely unthinkable, but it was only in the 70s that all this changed, after Nixon visited mainland China and it began re-opening to the world.
