I copied the tracker's list of hashes it tracks to another file, but forgot to change its ownership, so it was no longer writable by the weeb software.

Adding to the problem was the resulting error reported to bittorrent clients failed to give the usual "This torrent is unauthorized for use by humans" or something like that. Your fault!
