Thanks to Anausa for uploading this.

I re-encoded his 5.1GB 1080p to 900M 720p using x265. It looks ok.

Quote:
Revolution of Our Times (Chinese: 時代革命) is a 2021 Hong Kong documentary film directed by Kiwi Chow. With interviews and footage of the front-line protest scenes, the film covers the stories of the 2019–2020 Hong Kong protests. The documentary takes its name from a locally well-known political slogan "liberate Hong Kong, revolution of our times" which has been ruled as illegal by the Hong Kong High Court. The film had its debut in the 2021 Cannes Film Festival in France and is currently banned in China and Hong Kong.
For many years, Hong Kongers have fought for freedoms and democracy but have yet succeeded. In 2019, a proposed extradition legislation ignited heated debates in Hong Kong and gave birth to wave after wave of protests. The documentary features seven groups of protestors and pieces their tales together into one big story to chronicle the protest movement.

Contains dual hard subtitles, Chinese and English.

Thank you. I feel like clarifying (in case of any confusion) that the upload was not my encode, but just a x264 WEB-DL.

I also would like to take this opportunity to ask if you would be kind enough to share any helpful information, recommendations, tips and tricks regarding re-encoding. For example, did you just downscale from 1080p to 720p to achieve this, or is there more to it?

I would like to do try this at some point as I have some documentaries I want to share that I've encoded myself, but my sources are always full disks and remuxes, so my encodes are usually around 5GB, but oftentimes they go over 10GB, it always depends on the source (which I'm completely fine with to be honest). My general goal is basically take off as much weight as possible but to keep the quality intact (for the most part).

So with that said, I'm not sure about sharing those encodes as they are on here. What do you think?

I just ffmpeg it with -s hd720 - it's also with libx265 and -crf 27 -preset fast

Happy to help, it depends what you are using to encode I guess.

Much simpler than what I thought, thank you!

It may be that there are more complicated answers which produce a *slightly* better result, for certain films.

But I have no idea what they are :)
