Our species, Homo sapiens, arose approximately 250,000 years ago. In the beginning, we used tools of stone and sought shelter in caves. Today, our shelters scrape clouds and our tools allow us to see galaxies far beyond our own, or peer deep into the heart of matter itself. So much progress in such a short time, for in geological terms, the reign of our species has been but the proverbial blink of an eye. Imagine, however, what our record of achievement would be had our history been disrupted no less than five times by titanic nuclear wars, each delivering a destructive blast 10,000 times more powerful than the combined yield of all existing nuclear weapons in our world today.
Such upheaval is what many other species, including the dinosaurs, may have faced during the history of our planet, according to a theory set forth by a Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory (LBL) scientist and his colleagues. The theory postulates that every 26 to 30 million years, life on Earth is severely jeopardized by the arrival of a small companion star to the sun. Dubbed "Nemesis" (after the Greek goddess of retribution), the companion star?through its gravitational pull?unleashes a furious storm of comets into the inner solar system that lasts anywhere from 100,000 years to two million years. Of the billions of comets sent swarming toward the sun, several strike the Earth, triggering a nightmarish sequence of ecological catastrophes.

"We expect that in a typical comet storm, there would be perhaps 10 impacts spread out over two million years, with intervals averaging 50,000 years between impacts," says LBL astrophysicist Richard Muller. In 1984, Muller, along with UC Berkeley astronomer Marc Davis and Piet Hut, an astronomer with the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton University, announced the Nemesis theory in Nature magazine. As could be expected, it was and remains controversial. However, although the evidence for the existence of Nemesis is still circumstantial, this evidence continues to mount, and the theory has so far withstood all challenges.

Nemesis was the culmination of a chain of events that began in 1977, in Gubbio, Italy, a tiny village halfway between Rome and Florence. Walter Alvarez, a UC Berkeley geologist, was collecting samples of the limestone rock there for a study on paleomagnetism. The limestone rock outside of Gubbio is a big attraction for geologists and paleontologists because it provides a complete geological record of the end of the Cretaceous period and the beginning of the Tertiary period. This transition took place 65 million years ago, and is of special significance to our species, for it marked the close of the "Age of Reptiles," when dinosaurs ruled the Earth. Sometimes referred to as "the Great Dying," the massive extinction that engulfed the dinosaurs claimed nearly 75 percent of all the species of life on our planet, including most types of plants and many types of microscopic organisms. As much as 95 percent of all living creatures might have perished at the peak of destruction.
Sandwiched between the limestone of the two periods, forming a clear line of demarcation, is a thin?maybe one-half-inch thick?layer of red clay. Immediately below this clay layer, the Cretaceous limestone is heavily populated with a wide mix of the tiny fossils of marine creatures called forams. Above the clay layer, in the Tertiary limestone, however, the fossils of but a single species of foram can be seen. The clay layer itself contains no foram fossils at all.

When Walter Alvarez brought his samples back to Berkeley, his father, LBL Nobel laureate physicist Luis Alvarez, suggested that subjecting them to neutron activation analysis could help determine how long it took for the clay layer to form. The analysis, performed by LBL nuclear chemists Frank Asaro and Helen Michel, revealed?to the surprise of everyone involved?that the clay was about 600 times richer in iridium than the surrounding limestone. A silvery-white metal, related to platinum, iridium is quite scarce in the Earth?s crust, found usually in concentrations of only 20 parts per trillion. When the Earth was formed, most of the iridium sank into the planet?s core, 3,000 miles below the surface, where the concentration of the metal is 10,000 times that in the crust. Other sources of high iridium concentrations are extraterrestrial objects, such as meteorites or comets.
Subsequent samples collected from clay layers found at locations in Denmark and New Zealand, where the geological record of the Cretaceous-Tertiary boundaries are also complete, revealed the same iridium anomaly, plus an abundance of soot. This iridium anomaly has now been identified at more than 75 sites worldwide, by scientists from 11 different laboratories. Iridium is generally found in combination with platinum, gold, and several other elements. Measuring the concentrations of these elements and comparing their ratio to iridium indicated that the widely scattered iridium all came from the same source.
Putting all of the data together, Luis Alvarez concluded that the iridium anomaly was the result of a collision between the Earth and an extraterrestrial object approximately six miles in diameter. He speculated further that it was this collision that led to the death of the dinosaurs and all of the other species that perished during the Great Dying.
When a rock the size of San Francisco, traveling at approximately 45,000 miles per hour, hits the Earth, there is an instantaneous release of approximately 100 million megatons of kinetic energy?six billion times the force of the Hiroshima bomb. Luis and Walter Alvarez predicted the effects of such an explosion, based on the aftermath of the volcanic eruption of Krakatoa in 1883, the biggest eruption ever ecorded.

The Old Testament describes an event over Palestine, when the Hebrew tribes were led into the battle of Beth-Horon by Joshua. "And he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon. And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is this not written in the Book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day."
The sun over Gibeon was in the forenoon sky. It would have been night or very early morning in the Western hemisphere.
There is a Mexican tradition, recorded in the Nahua-Indian in the Annals of Cuauhtitlan, that once in the remote past the night did not end for a long time. Friar Bernardino de Sahagun, a Spanish scholar who came to the New World a generation after Columbus, wrote that the American aborigines told of a great catastrophe, in which the sun had risen only a little way above the horizon, and then stood still. These are but two of the many traditions from all parts of the world which refer to a disturbance in the earth's orderly rotation.
It is conceivable that a large celestial body approaching the earth could exert an attraction sufficiently powerful to slow down its turning and make the sun appear to stop in the sky. The heads of comets are assumed to be composed of clusters of meteorites. If a comet were to come close to the earth, it would accompanied by meteors falling in a torent. The Old Testament, two verses above the description in the Book of Joshua of the sun standing still, contains the following passage: "As they fled from before Israel, and were going down to Beth-Horan... the Lord cast down great stones upon them in Azekah, and they died..."

In a book to be published in a few weeks called Worlds in Collision, Dr. Immanuel Velikovsky will present a great body of evidence to show that about 1500 B.C. a comet, a new member of the solar system, did pass close to the earth. This he places at the time of the Exodus of the Israelites from Egypt. Fifty-two years later, at the time of Joshua, the same comet returned. At both of these two meetings with the comet, in Dr. Velikovsky's words, "according to the memory of mankind, the earth refused to play the chronometer by undisturbed rotation on its axis." Worlds in Collision is the first of four or more volumes in which the same author will maintain that not only on these two occasions but many times has the earth undergone vast and disastrous catatclysms in which its rotation was interrupted.

This article is an attempt, necessarily condensed and incomplete, to offer a preview of Dr. Velikovsky's findings. It is impossible to give here any idea of the extent of the material he has assembled to substantiate his argument. In the descriptions which follow, for every piece of evidence mentioned, Worlds in Collision, the first volume alone, contains scores more; and every statement in the book is supplied with numerous references.
Dr. Velikovsky's work crosses so many of the jurisdictional boundaries of learning that few experts could check it against their own competence. The main body of evidence in Worlds in Collision is historical, and the details are drawn from - among other sources - the Old Testament, the Talmud, the Egyptian papyri, the historical texts, traditions, and the legends of Rome, Greece, Babylonia, Arabia, Persia, India, Tibet, Finland, Iceland, West Africa, Siberia, China, Japan, the Pacific Islands, Mexico, and Peru. Dr. Velikovsky describes the area of his investigations as "anthropology in the broadest sense," concerning itself with "the nature of the cosmos and its history."
This universal student was born in Vitebsk, Russia in 1895. He studied natural sciences at Edinburgh, and law, economics, and history in Russia. He studied medicine at the Moscow Imperial University and medical law at the University of Charcow. Later he received his M.D. in Moscow.

During the early twenties he studied biology in Berlin. He foundede and edited the Scripta Universitatis, a joint work of Jewish scholars out of which grew the University of Jerusalem. Dr. Chaim Weizmann asked Dr. Velikovsky to direct the inception of that University, but he declined and in 1923 went to Palestine, where he practiced as a physician. Beginning in 1928 he studied psychoanalysis and the function of the brain in Zurich and Vienna, with Eugen Bleuler, Wilhelm Stekel, Alfred Adler, and other pioneers in the field. In 1937 he delivered an address to the International Psychological Congress, "On Psychological Roots of Hatred Among the Nations," and in 1939, five weeks before war broke out, he came to this country.

Dr. Velikovsky brought with him to America an unfinished book on Freud and His Heroes. In the study of Moses and Ikhnaton in preparation for this work, he came upon the idea that great physical catastrophes might be used to synchronize the the records of the ancient peoples of the Near East, and before the end of 1940 the main outlines of his work were clear. It is so far composed of Worlds in Collision, a natural history of the world catastrophes, and of two further volumes called Ages in Chaos. The latter (completed first though they will be published second) contain the elaborately documented rewriting of ancient history assumed in Worlds in Collision. "I ask a credence of the reader," says Dr. Velikovsky, "that he allow me to use this chronology until Ages in Chaos is published." He has been working on both books concurrently for the past nine years.
Professor Horace M. Kallen, former dean of the New School For Social Research, was among the first to read the manuscript of Worlds in Collision. "Even if I thought that Velikovsky's theories were entirely ungrounded," writes Professor Kallen of Velikovsky's historical and archaeological work, "I would treat them as an extraordinary achievement of the scientific and historical imgination....But it is myt belief that Velikovsky has supported his thesis with substantial evidence and made an effective and persuasive argument." Gordon A. Atwater, curator of the Hayden Planetarium, wrote to the Macmillan Company that, "the theories presented by Dr. Velikovsky are unique and should be presented to the world of science in order that the underpinning of modern science can be re-examined....I believe the author has done an outstanding job. In fact, he has gone beyond what normally be expected of a single individual."

The comet, at the first of the two meetings reconstructed in Worlds in Collision, touched the earth with its gaseous tail, and one of the first signs of the encounter was a rain of fine, rusty pigment. The world turned red. “All the waters that were in the river,” reads the Book of Exodus, “were turned to blood.” The Manuscript Quiche’ of the Mayas tells of the rivers turning to blood, and so does the Papyrus Ipuwer of the Egyptians. Then, as the story continues in the Visuddhi-Magga of the Buddhists, the fine dust turned to coarse dust, “and then fine sand, and then coarse sand, and then grit, stones, up to boulders as large... as mighty trees on the hilltops.”
And with the shower of meteorites the earth stopped turning.

The Mayan Calendar and Hindu Cycles of Creation end around this time. IN the Mayan mythos they say this time (Focused on 2011-2012) is the time of the cosmic crossing. (WTF does that mean you may ask?)

Jan 1st Marks the start of our calendar year, but it also marks the time that the earth is closest to the Star Sirius. (Why would our years start then?)

FIrst the Mayan Cosmic Cross, is the crossing of galactic plane. That is, When our solar system, crosses over the galactic plane of the milky way galaxy. Simply put, our solar system spirals around one of the many arms of the galaxy. And every 26,000 odd years we traverse a full cycle around this arm (Like a ball bearing spinning around inside a tube (In the vertical), and the tube is also spinning around the galactic center (in the horizontal) 2012 is when we supposedly cross over, or when our solar system comes into alignment with the central BLACK HOLE sun of the milky way and then over the many years starts to move OUT of the equatorial plane. (Imagine the rings of Saturn, and you have a space ship, you travel from the below the rings to above the rings, then below the rings then back up, down etc. As you go around Saturn your skipping up and down through the rings. Your space ship is going to get the most resistance when passing through the rings, because that's where the highest density of energy is) This equatorial plane is the region of the strongest cosmic winds. That means much more energy!

As for SIRIUS? Well Sirius is our sister star, or we travel along in the same ARM of the Milky Way. Sirius is ahead of us up the tube. So Each year Jan 1st begins when we, the earth, is in the lead position, pointing FORWARD in our horizontal travel through the milky way galaxy arm, we travel both horizontal and we spiral around the arm vertically.

Any rotational body, Sun, Earth, Saturn, Galaxy, energies will concentrate in the equatorial plane. That means our Solar System is passing through the densest, and highest energetic area of the galaxy. The equatorial plane of the black hole that is the milky way central sun. The strongest winds are formed at the equators of planets. Energy and Planets/matter cycle around the equatorial plane of stars/suns)

In Hindu mythos, they say this time is the end of the age of Kali (Darkness/Chaos) and rebirth into a new age of wisdom. The Mayans say this is the end of time as we know it, and we must first pass through the ring of fire and be reborn into a new way (Some say a new consciousness or way of being)

Bottom line is, we are surfing the cosmic winds, we are passing through the an energy dense region of the galaxy (the equatorial plane) and nature, we know, operates in cycles. We have recorded the past 4000 years of cycles, these cycles we know, from yearly seasons, to lunar cycles, to solar cycles etc. We know all these. We know smaller fractal cycles operate too, right down to the spinning of atoms. Well why wouldn't there be greater cycles too?

Just because we haven't experienced something for say? 13,000 years? And only have myths and legends about the last big climate changes, of floods, and such. It doesn't mean greater cycles do not exist. Follow the pattern of life and it points to the reality that greater cycles certainly do exist, and we are experiencing one right now. And its not over yet!

SO What data can we glean from NASA about the Climate of our solar system? This may interest you.

SUN: The Sun’s magnetic field is over 230 percent stronger now than it was at the beginning of the 1900s, and its overall energetic activity has sizably increased, creating a frenzy of activity that continues to embarrass NASA’s official predictions.

VENUS: Venus is now glowing in the dark, as is Jupiter’s moon Io.

EARTH: In the last 30 years, Earth’s icecaps have thinned out by as much as 40 percent. Quite inexplicably, just since 1997 the structure of the Earth has shifted from being slightly more egg-shaped, or elongated at the poles, to more pumpkin-shaped, or flattened at the poles. No one at NASA has even bothered to try to explain this yet.

MARS: The icecaps of Mars noticeably melted just within one year, causing 50-percent changes in surface features. Atmospheric density had risen by 200 percent above previous observations as of 1997. (Must be those secret Mars bases, with their coal fired power stations effecting the climate on Mars!)

JUPITER: Jupiter has become so highly energized that it is now surrounded by a visibly glowing donut tube of energy in the path of the moon Io. The size of Jupiter’s magnetic field has more than doubled since 1992.

SATURN: Saturn’s polar regions have been noticeably brightening, and its magnetic field strength increasing.

URANUS: According to NASA’s Voyager II space probe, Uranus and Neptune both appear to have had recent magnetic pole shifts – 60 degrees for Uranus and 50 for Neptune.

NEPTUNE: Neptune has become 40 percent brighter in infrared since 1996, and is fully 100-percent brighter in certain areas. Also, Neptune’s moon Triton has had a “very large percentage increase” in atmospheric pressure and temperature, comparable to a 22-degree Fahrenheit increase on Earth.

PLUTO: As of September 2002, Pluto has experienced a 300-percent increase in its atmospheric pressure in the last 14 years, while also becoming noticeably darker in color.

Sometimes we fail to look beyond the box, beyond our own backyard, beyond our own country, planet and even solar system. We are a part of something so huge, it becomes impossible to contemplate. Everything is connected. I hope this can put it into perspective.

Just as the EARTHS magnetic field protects us form the Suns Solar Rays/Energy, the Suns Magnetic field protects us from the galactic rays/energy.

But it is clear that when Earth encounters strong periods of solar energy in the Sun Cycle the earth's climate IS effected. So it would be easy to hypothesis that the same applies, when the Suns Heliosphere is effected by the cosmic energy, the sun will be effected, which in turn will effect the earth and the rest of the solar system.

Nature has an innate intelligence. Is earth just responding, in concert with the Sun to a galactic shift in energy as we traverse the ring of fire?

We entered this band fully around the mid 90's, so we can expect to see a plateu effect, but we can also expect wilder, more chaotic swings of the pendulum, and more inner earth issues as we sail the slipstream of the cosmic sea's..

They said (and I know many of you are from tribes that also have this prophecy, "You're going to see a time when the eagle will fly its highest in the night and it will land upon the moon." Some tribes say the eagle will circle the moon. Some tribes say the eagle will fly it's highest in the night. "And at that time," they say, "Many of the Native people will be sleeping," which symbolically means they have lost their teachings. There are some tribes that say it will be as if they are frozen: they've been through the long winter. But they say, "When the eagle flies it's highest in the night, that will be the first light of a new day. That will be the first thawing of spring." Of course, at the first light of a new day, if you've stayed up all night, you notice it's really dark. And the first light, you want to see it, but you can't. It sneaks up on you. You want to see it change but it's dark and then pretty soon it's getting light before you know it. We're at that time now. The Eagle has landed on the moon, 1969. When that spaceship landed they sent back the message, "The Eagle has landed." Traditionally, Native people from clear up in the Inuit region, they have shared with us this prophecy, clear down to the Quechuas in South America. They shared with us that they have this prophecy. When they heard those first words, "The Eagle has landed," they knew that was the start of a new time and a new power for Native people. There was absolutely nothing strong before us now. We may do anything we wish. In 1776 when the United States Government printed the dollar, in one claw [of the eagle], if you've ever noticed, there is an olive branch in this claw. They said that represented peace. The Indian elders shared with me in South Dakota that to them that represents the enslavement of black people. In the prophecies of the Six Nations people they say there will be two great uprisings by black people to free themselves. We've seen one about 1964. There will be a second, more violent one to come. I'll get back to what that means in a minute. In the other claw is 13 arrows. The founding fathers of the United States said that represents the 13 States. But the elders say that represents the enslavement of the Native people. When the Eagle landed on the moon, they decided to print a special silver dollar to commemorate that. I don't know how many of you noticed it. The original design showed the spaceship landing on the moon but at the last minute it was changed to an actual eagle. And in the eagle's claws is the olive branch, but the arrows are gone. The elders said, "That's our prophecy we have been released." There was one more uprising coming for the black race of people and then they will be released and this is also going to have an effect on Native people, a good effect. There's a whole new set of prophecies from the Iriquois people about that and I won't have time to go into tht this morning.

But we're in that time now. We're between the first light of a new day and the sunrise. The sunrise is about to come and when it comes up everyone is going to see it. But you know how it is in the village there's a few people that get up early, and there are some that sleep until noon. I'm probably one of those that sleeps until noon.
They said when that Eagle lands on the moon, the powers will begin to come back to us. As an alcoholic person, I feel that one of our greatest diseases is alcoholism. Within seven days of the time of the Eagle landing on the moon, the first Native alcoholism program was started on an Apache reservation in Arizona. Within seven days of the time the Eagle landed on the moon, the Freedom of Indian Religion Act was introduced into the United States Congress. Eventually it was passed in November of 1978, signed by President Carter, making the song that Kevin [Kevin Locke, a famous Indian Baha'i who spends his time travelling around the world sharing the North American Indian culture through dance and music] sang legal to sing in every state of the United States. It was punishable at one time to go to jail for 10 years and/or a $10,000 fine for singing a song or doing a suat. This was changed in 1978 the legislation was introduced in 1969, less than seven days after the Eagle landed on the moon. These are the physical manifestations of the spiritual prophecies that we have.
So he said at this time you're going to see that things will speed up, that people on the earth will move faster and faster. Grandchildren will not have time for grandparents. Parents will not have time for children. It will seem like time is going faster and faster. The elders advised us that as things speed up, you yourself should slow down. The faster things go, the slower you go. Because there's going to come a time when the earth is going to be shaken a third time. The Great Spirit has been shaking the earth two times: the First and Second World Wars to remind us that we are a human family, to remind us that we should have greeted each other as brothers and sisters. We had a chance after each shaking to come together in a circle that would have brought peace on earth, but we missed that.

We know as the electron moves toward the nucleus, it is moving toward a more stable energy state….and the electron must do something.
It must eject photons of light!
OR as I see and feel things in these END of DAZE Times/2012, as the Maya and the Bible thumpers both predict … there will be an ascension/a rapture…which are the photons/energy being released as we move toward …

It is sunset at the camp of the tribe known as the Utes. Preparations for
the annual Sun-Dance have begun. Men and women draped in rabbit-skin robes
are drawn to the fire's glow. Dishes of simmering turtle, lizard, insects,
and generous servings of berries and seed are shared around the circle. It
is time. An elder rises and passed a lined hand over his buffalo-skin
cloak. The children are immediately alert, their eyes wide with
anticipation.

Listen now, on this feast of the Sun-Dance, to the Utes' myth of the taming
of the sun-god:
Once upon a time Ta-wats, the hare-god, was sitting with his family by the
camp-fire in the solemn woods, anxiously waiting for the return of Ta-va
(the wayward sun-god). Wearied with long watching, the hare-god fell
asleep, and the sun-god came so near that he scorched the naked shoulder of
Ta-wats. Foreseeing the vengeance which would be thus provoked, he fled
back to his cave beneath the earth.
Ta-wats awoke in great anger, and speedily determined to go and fight the
sun-god. After a long journey of many adventures the hare-god came to the
brink of the earth, and there watched long and patiently, till at last the
sun-god coming out he shot an arrow at his face, but the fierce heat
consumed the arrow ere it had finished its intended course; then another
was sped, but that also was consumed; and another, and another, till only
one remained in his quiver, but this was the magical arrow that had never
failed its mark.

Ta-wats, holding it in his hand, lifted the barb to his eye and baptized it
in a divine tear; then the arrow was sped and struck the sun-god full in
the face, and the sun was shivered into a thousand fragments which fell to
the earth, causing a general conflagration.
Then Ta-wats, the hare-god, fled before the destruction he had wrought, and
as he fled the burning earth consumed his feet, consumed his legs, consumed
his body, consumed his hands and his arms - all were consumed but the head
alone, which bowled across valleys and over mountains, fleeing the
destruction from the burning earth, until at last, swollen with heat, the
eyes of the god burst and the tears gushed forth in a flood which spread
over the earth and extinguished the fire.
The sun-god was now conquered, and he appeared before a council of the gods
to await sentence. In that long council were established the days and the
nights, the seasons and the years, with the length thereof and the sun was
condemned to travel across the firmament by the same trail day after day
till the end of time.

The Utes, after whom Utah was named, were among the most warlike tribes in
the American West. They fought with the Comanche, Arapaho, Kiowa, and
Cheyenne for domination over hunting grounds. Young braves were taught
when to attack, when to retreat, and when to find honour in vengeance.
These challenges were interwoven with forceful lessons about the humbling
power of nature. Tales of the hare-god's antics and the sun-god's power
were much more than exciting children's stories. The myths illustrated the
critical factors a warrior must weigh in times of battle: how the seasons
came to be, and why the sun follows its predictable path across the sky.
This cohesive view of the world was strong glue binding the tribe together.
The myth was also a reflection of the human need to create order out of
nature's chaos. The social problems of war and peace were mirrored in
nature's forces of chaos and order. Ta-wats, the hare-god, is sleeping in
the woods when the wayward sun provokes him by scorching his shoulder. He
rises and seeks revenge upon the fleeing sun-god. Eventually the sun-god
is attacked with a magic arrow and the explosive forces of nature are
released. The sun erupts and a great flood engulfs the world. Order is
restored only when a council of the gods creates predictable seasons and
condemns the sun to follow an unalterable path across the heavens until
"the end of time."

The myth of the wayward sun can also be seen as a distant echo of the last
earth crust displacement. As the ground shuddered beneath them it would
have seemed to its shocked inhabitants that the sky, sun, and stars were
tumbling from their place in the heavens. The violent earthquakes caused
by the displacement generated great tidal waves that rolled across the
ocean, smashing vulnerable coastlines. Ice caps melted, forcing the ocean
level higher and higher. For many it was the end of the world. But for
the survivors, it became the first day of a new world order.
The German-American anthropologist Franz Boas (1858-1942) traced the
mythology of the Utes to the Canadian province of British Columbia, where
the mythological trail connected the Utes with the Kutenai, and in turn the
Okanagan. The Kutenai occupy territory encompassing parts of British
Columbia, Alberta, Washington, Idaho, and Montana. Like the Utes, the
Kutenai speak of a great fire that erupted over the earth when the sun was
struck by an arrow. "Coyote is envious, and shoots the sun at sunrise.
His arrows catch fire, fall down, and set fire to the grass."
And the Kutenai speak of the fear they have that the world will come to an
end when the sky loses its stability: "The Kutenai look for Polaris [the
North Star] every night. Should it not be in place, the end of the world
is imminent."

Little is known of the origin of the Kutenai. They often have wavy hair,
light brown skin, and slight beards. Their neighbours in the plains, the
blackfoot, gave them the name Kutenai, which is a Blackfoot word for "white
men." Franz Boas believed that the Kutenai were mythologically linked with
their neighbours to the west, the Okanagan. The Okanagan called the
Kutenai by the same "skelsa'ulk," which has been translated as "water
people."

In 1886, the famous American historian Hubert Howe Bancroft (1832-1918)
related the Okanagan myth of their lost island paradise of
"Samah-tumi-whoo-lah":
Long, long ago, when the sun was young and no bigger than a star, there was
an island far off in the middle of the ocean. It was called
Samah-tumi-whoo-lah, meaning White Man's Island. On it lived a race of
giants - white giants. Their ruler was a tall white woman called Scomalt.
... She could create whatever she wished.
For many years the white giants lived at peace, but at last they quarreled
amongst themselves. Quarreling grew into war. The noise of battle was
heard, and many people were killed. Scomalt was made very, very angry ...
she drove the wicked giants to one end of the White Man's Island. When
they wee gathered together in one place, she broke off the piece of land
and pushed it into the sea. For many days the floating island drifted on
the water, tossed by waves and wind. All the people on it died except one
man and one woman. ...
