Magical Egypt with Anthony West

Someone's been keeping secrets, it seems, not telling the whole story, from ancient Egypt to the mysterious phenomena in our skies-but there s so much to keep up with. Tired of reading the printed word? Then pop a video in your VCR and let someone else do the work. There s a lot here that's worth your consideration. You might be surprised, though, at what you see and hear. Magical Egypt, a Symbolist Tour Expectations always precede the insertion of a videocassette into the player. It is best to surrender these expectations, especially in the world of alternative science and mysticism, where video productions, like their writers and producers, fall into categories of their own making.

John Anthony West's new video, Magical Egypt , a Symbolist Tour, while seemingly made with a cable TV audience in mind, breaks the rules of conventionality by presenting more of a teaching than a documentary, more of a verbal and visual essay than a work of journalism. The production is entrancing, taking us into the etheric understanding of the ancient temple builders, but not what one would expect from a traditional made-for-TV documentary. At the start, to set the tone of this video, we are greeted by the following by Robert Lawlor: In the symbolist model of ancient Egypt, at least two concurrent, simultaneous levels are at work in any given instance. One is the study of Egypt as a civilization that existed in a factual geographic place and time, its people, mythology, social forms, its chronological unfolding, its monuments and artifacts, but this is only a backdrop, or support, for another Egypt, which might be called a quality of intelligence. This Egypt is outside of chronological considerations; it is rather, both an ever present and recurring possibility of consciousness.

For the most part, Magical Egypt is an assertion made by the narrator, rather than a series of interviews from experts in the field of Egyptology, archaeology, spirituality, and so forth. West is the interviewee. He enjoys this position almost exclusively, delving into the mysteries of Egyptian architecture and sacred geometry with perspicacity and reverence. To those only superficially familiar with such realities, the video will prove fascinating, perhaps life-changing; but one would have to be predisposed, in that few outside sources are brought in to make the case for the skeptical or those sitting on the fence. At stake here is the worldview of Western civilization, science, and religion. West s considerable expertise in the area of alternative Egyptology is evident, and this video is but the first in a series that will, we presume, flesh out the argument that Egypt's culture and accomplishments derive from supernal as opposed to orthodox sources. In this context, Magical Egypt is an introduction to the subject, a laying down of principles that will have to be tried and proved in later editions.

This work of philosophy, inspired by West's own research and devotion to the transcendent Egyptological view, serves as a primer for those in need of a teaching, but it will not sway the masses until other authorities speak third, fourth and fifth parties who support West s case, or those who challenge it only to have their misgivings addressed. This video is easy to recommend, however. It spells out a prerequisite understanding for those trying to grasp the deeper meaning of ancient Egypt, and of themselves how sublime physical structure can lead one to the deeper realm of universal consciousness. Magical Egypt has its evangelical tone, but we all need inspiration, not to mention a succinct rendering of what was apparently the divine connectedness of the ancients free from the carping of professional skeptics. --David Lewis for Atlantis Rising Magazine

Dictionary of Ancient Egypt.pdf

Why did the Egyptians go to such effort to preserve their dead? How did they brew beer and furnish their houses? What would the great temple complex at Karnak have looked like? Why did Tutankhamun change his name? Packed with facts and superb illustrations, this extensively cross-referenced A-to-Z guide to the world's most intriguing civilization is now available in a compact, affordable paperback edition. Drawing on the vast resources of London's British Museum, the book is a mine of information on all aspects of the ancient Egyptian world. Clear explanations and descriptions of 600 major ideas, events, and personalities that shaped 4,000 years of life in the Nile valley are provided, and each entry is followed by a brief bibliography. Illustrated throughout with photographs, line drawings, site plans, and maps, and including the most up-to-date information, The Dictionary of Ancient Egypt is an invaluable resource.

Encyclopedia of Ancient Egypt.pdf

The first, 1991 edition of this work had more than 1,500 entries and covered the predynastic period from around 3200 B.C.E. to the fall of the New Kingdom in 1070 B.C.E. The revised edition has more than 2,200 alphabetically arranged entries and extends coverage to the suicide of Cleopatra and the beginning of Roman occupation in 30 B.C.E. After a brief introduction there is a chronology of major events in Egypt and the Near East and Mediterranean in parallel columns. After the body of the work are a glossary of Egyptian words, a list of suggested readings, and a detailed index. The addition of the latter remedies a deficiency noted in our review of the first edition. Articles range from a paragraph to several double-column pages. Many of the longer ones, and a few of the shorter ones, have suggestions for further reading. Cross-references and see also references are used liberally. There is a table of deities in the entry Gods and goddesses, and of queens in Queens, but a list of kings appears not under Pharaoh but in Dynasties, with no cross-reference. Most of the rulers of Egypt have separate entries, but a table of rulers under Pharaoh would have been useful for placing them in time. The text is accompanied by some 14 black-and-white maps and diagrams of Egypt and major temple complexes. The 80 black-and-white photographs and line drawings should photocopy well. The suggested readings include materials published in 2001, and at least some of the readings should be available in most medium-sized to large pubic libraries. This title is recommended for high-school and public libraries and for smaller academic libraries needing a quick and current Egyptology reference. Less scholarly than The Oxford Encyclopedia of Ancient Egypt (2001), it is a good single-volume introduction to the topic.

Comment: Anthony West, the worst nightmare of all ossified egyptologists. Defending obsolete paradigms seems to be more important to many scientists than the quest for TRUTH. Defending the status quo seems to result in a more stable income than exploring the universe in the spirit of Indiana Jones. What is more important: A stable income and being a well respected member of society, or being true to yourself and daring to explore the universal path of cosmic enlightenment?
