In January 2001 a junior Libyan intelligence agent was convicted of Britain's biggest mass murder. He was said to be a key conspirator in the successful plot to blow up a Pan Am air liner.
This was the plane which plunged into the village of Lockerbie, causing the deaths of 270 people. But what if the Lockerbie Libyan was an innocent victim of intelligence cover-ups and conspiracies? What if the Libyans, who have admitted their part in the atrocity, actually had little or nothing to do with it?
Danny Wallace has been following the Lockerbie trail - and seeing how it points as much to Syria and Iran - still top targets on America's blacklist - as it does to Libya.
