The Last One (2005)
Deep in the wilds of Southern Appalachia, lifelong moonshiner Popcorn Sutton runs one last batch of true moonshine whiskey. Through the exhausting work of clearing the site, building a rock and clay furnace, brewing corn mash and producing high-proof moonshine, Sutton reveals the craft of traditional distillation, the character of his Scots-Irish ancestors, and a lifetime of memories in the trade.
Filmed in the mountains of North Carolina, "The Last One" is a journey deep into Southern Appalachia, and Appalachian culture, as seen through the lens of a mason jar, showing the craft of moonshine distillation in full splendor for the first time.
Lifelong moonshiner Popcorn Sutton returns to the Southern Highlands in his treasured A-Model Ford to seek a suitable location to run one final batch of traditional bootleg whiskey. Through the laborious process of clearing a site, building a furnace, brewing corn mash and distilling high proof moonshine, Sutton reveals the craft of traditional distillation as practiced by his forbears and reveals a lifetime of memories in the trade. The DVD special features are 30 minutes and include: commentary, additional footage, and "Raymond Fairchild at the Maggie Valley Opry House" - Banjo legend Raymond Fairchild demonstrates the skills that landed him in the Bluegrass Hall of Fame.
