1291, and the Egyptian Mamluks had finally driven the Templars, and all of the crusaders out of Palestine. The entire reason for being was the defence of Christian Holy sites. What role could there now be for the warrior monk? If they had no role, why would they need such wealth?

1307,the King of France orders the Templars' arrest on charges of a variety of heretical crimes, of obscenities, worship of an idol, treason with a Muslim, denying Jesus Christ, spitting on the cross,sleeping with the Devil, eating the ashes of the dead,and various homosexual activities.

If the Templars were found guilty of any one of these crimes, they would be burned alive.
