During the time in which Romans and Greeks were ruling ancient Europe, people to the north of the Alps were developing a great civilization.Thanks to their fearsome warriors and to the control of the commerce routes, they grew more and more rich and powerful, and became famous with the name of Celts.
Before the end of the I century BC the Celts had spread in all Europe: from Ireland and Iberian Peninsula to Turkey, from Denmark and Germany to Mediterranean French coasts.
They had barbarian customs, but they were admired for their great artistic and artisan qualities. The Celts had a great influence in european culture, noticeable even nowadays. In many aspect, though, this people is still an enigma.
