Doomsday Preppers and Underground Shelters (2012)

1) shelters - Shipping Container as an Underground Shelter

"Final attempt to record building of an underground shelter using a 20 ft. shipping container. For those wondering why I didn't simply pile dirt over it without pouring a concrete cap first..... These containers are mostly sheet metal. Heavy duty as it is, the roof and sides will push inwards from the weight. Eventually the metal will rust through and you'll be buried alive. My way will insure it is still there a few hundred years from now. Problem is, you'd better keep an eye on your sump pump. If it goes bad or loses power, you'll go in one day and find it the whole thing flooded. A surface alarm letting you know the water level is above where it should be isn't a bad idea. Putting the sump pump on a UPS is also a good thing."

4) shelters - other stuff

comment (Shipping Container as an Underground Shelter):

This is a great idea - using a shipping container as a shelter is very cost effective. This method is a great way to store your food and other survival equipment. There are some serious flaws though:

1. We are facing a war on two fronts here: In a serious crisis you will see masses of hungry people trying to loot your equipment, and on the other side you will be faced with a progressively more tyrannical administration trying to confiscate your stuff. Storing food may become illegal soon. Therefore your storage shelter has to be as far removed from your dwelling as possible. Bear in mind that the authorities are equipped with metal detectors and even more sophisticated devices capable of locating everything in the ground around your house. If you own gold, then do not bury it in your garden or hide it in your apartment. This is also true for guns. Bullets will be more precious than gold anyway soon. Offer and demand creates value, bear this in mind. Starving people don't want gold, they want food. And fighting people don't want gold either, they want guns and bullets. In World War II, alcohol and tobacco were used as currencies also. Farmers in post-war Germany were offered large amounts of gold and silver for just a bit of food by rich people from the cities. Forget paper money.

2. Burying your shelter below nine inches of concrete may not be enough. When protecting yourself from radiation, the kind of material you use isn't that important, what matters is its mass. This means than one foot of earth or stone or even wood is much better than one inch of steel. One foot of steel is way too expensive whereas one foot of earth is cheap. If you own a Geiger counter and a small radioactive source, you will be able to check out for yourself what shields you from radiation. Use nine inches of concrete, but bury the container five feet deeper and cover these five feet with earth. This will protect you from metal detectors and government-looters.

3. Don't build your shelter in a blast zone. This is possible but way too expensive to do.

4. Remember: For each clever idea you have, you may save lots of money. You might even try to locate natural cave systems you could use in an emergency. Some of these cave systems go very deep and are vast. There are maps for speleologists telling you where those caves can be found. Go to a public library and this won't cost you a cent. "Lack of money" often enough is just a lame excuse by lazy people.

"Speleology (also spelled spel-ae-ology or spelaeology) is the scientific study of caves and other karst features, their make-up, structure, physical properties, history, life forms, and the processes by which they form (speleogenesis) and change over time (speleomorphology). The term speleology is also sometimes applied to the recreational activity of exploring caves, but this is more properly known as caving, spelunking or potholing. Speleology and caving are often connected, as the physical skills required for in situ study are the same." --wikipedia

5. Before covering the concrete with earth, cover your shelter and the area around it with a sheet of thick plastic. This protects your shelter from rain-water.

I guess we have been spending enough time trying to save a world that doesn't want to be saved. Now it's about time to think of our own survival. Therefore from now own I will mainly create torrents about self-sufficiency, survival and free energy. Remember, self-sufficiency isn't just about your body, it's also about your mind and your soul.

Of course the elite media spread these prepper-movies now to scare the shit out of the people, but these films are quite useful anyway. No reason to get freaked out, just stay cool and do what has to be done. Fear is for those who aren't ready.

Are you afraid of being called "crazy"?

OK, you're crazy but you will survive.
