Coral Castle - Alex Merklinger with Joe Bullard (2004)

From 1923 to 1951, Edward Leedskalnin single-handedly and secretly carved over 1,100 tons of coral rock, and his unknown process has created one of the world's most mysterious accomplishments. He could move stones as heavy as 30 tonnes and over 40 feet in height without assistance. Nobody could figure out how he did it, standing only 5 feet tall and weighing a mere 100 pounds.

The Coral Castle was built in tribute to his 16 year old fiancée Agnes Scuffs, who jilted Ed one day before they were due to wed. Agnes never visited the stone structure despite numerous invites from Ed. The rockstar Billy Idol wrote the song "Sweet Sixteen" as a tribute to Ed, who would always refer to Agnes as his "Sweet Sixteen."
