OK so I guess I'm way too nerdy for the vast majority of you ConCenners out there. It's just that I'd already been using computers for 15 years when this was broadcast, so it was a big deal for me, like coming out of the closet or something. Our little community's big secret was being exposed to the world... damn I miss those days!

1994 was an amazing time. A lot of people weren't aware that the internet was going mainstream before it had a GUI. Although CompuServe, Prodigy, AOL and other subscription networks were around then (with GUIs), the real nerds shunned them because they boxed their users inside a virtual cage, forcing them to pay for services which were free elsewhere.
