Chaos Computer Club Analyzes Government Malware (2011)

2011-10-08 19:00:00

The largest European hacker club, "Chaos Computer Club" (CCC), has reverse engineered and analyzed a "lawful interception" malware program used by German police forces. It has been found in the wild and submitted to the CCC anonymously. The malware can not only siphon away intimate data but also offers a remote control or backdoor functionality for uploading and executing arbitrary other programs. Significant design and implementation flaws make all of the functionality available to anyone on the internet.

Under this link you can download the trojan software itself:

Your anti-virus software may be triggered by this file. Don't worry, it's a trojan, not a virus. It's not a self-executable but has to be installed manually. Similar trojans may be used by US intelligence agencies and police forces. This trojan has been found on a Windows PC.

Remember the old story about the NSA-backdoor in Windows NT? You can bet that there is a backdoor in most operating systems. It doesn't even have to be introduced from the outside, it's already built in. The more high-tech you use, the easier it is for them to eavesdrop on you. Truly confidential information should never even touch a computer. Anything on your PC or Mac has to be considered "public". When you want your government to know something about you, then you simply have to put it on your computer. It's like e-mail without clicking the "send" button. And compared to what the agencies in the US have, German government malware is childish at best.
