Gary Bell in "A View From Space" (28 May 2011 episode) makes some remarks concerning Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien engaging in a Protestant / Catholic (respectively) Baconian Dialectic.
Lewis (commonly understood to be a Church of England luminary) has been accused betimes
of "batting for the other side" spiritually.

Here is Lewis's autobiography which may cast a little light on his background. A bloodbath of school beatings and sodomy (Lewis not stating whether he was involved as agent, patient or indeed at all).

Check out in particular "Chapter II. Concentration Camp: ARITHMETIC WITH COLOURED RODS. (Times Educational Supplement, Nov. 19, 1954)."

In any event, not quite the thing you might have expected in 1955 from a CoE scion. But then again, maybe he really wasn't ...

The e-text is in PDF (155pp.) and .txt formats and makes substantial corrections to the MS Word version still in circulation. Paper edition first published in 1955; Fontana Books Second Impression (May 1960) was used for the corrections, reportedly done in 2005 per the copy I have to hand.

Both PDF and .txt versions are a bit basic and use CAPITAL LETTERS and _underlining_ to signify italics and bold. Otherwise largely unformatted an example of Greek text is not reproduced. Hard returns only at paragraph ends in the .txt version.

NB: @18:31 Space referred to the Golem without saying it is from JEWISH cabbala. His omissions are more eloquent than his narrative.
