windows 10 preview data collection ...

Microsoft collects information about you, your devices, applications and networks, and your use of those devices, applications and networks. Examples of data we collect include your name, email address, preferences and interests; browsing, search and file history; phone call and SMS data; device configuration and sensor data; and application usage.

seems a tad excessive to me.
I have been tasked by a moron client to fart about with this.... the reason??? he reckons he'll deplot it in his workshop and offices.
I nearly fucking CHOKED when he said it..lol
I reminded him they had just updated last year to win7... however he insisted it would be a "good idea"
I tried to explain .. drivers..... for the complex set up of devices they have in the workshop and how when i took the lappie this is installed on into the workshop and tried to install said devices.... nothing good happened..lol
mind you he's paying for it but..... crazyness.

I might have a wee gander to see if gpedit will stop those services running then i'll be happier with that running on my old lappie even though it's rarely connected to any network, especially now.

The data collection that MS are doing is doing is MENTAL..

Is he wanting to compile this data on his employees?

lol charlie

the telemetry that gets sent to can be tweaked during the install and also with gpedit ;)
to be fair it's in a better state than was vista no matter when.. from longhorn to rtm.. and win7 pre-release... but not as stable as the release obviously.
it seems to tie your login to a windows live account.. however making an empty profile there isn't hard to do.
skype is preinstalled as are other apps.
at least the start menu is back but there are still those poxy metro tiles but you can just unpin them.
it's also a VERY quick install... done and dusted into a VM in about 25 minutes and onto my old lappie in 30 minutes.
I dunno what this client is all about. I advised him to wait till service pack one..lol
but he seems to be pretty much decided.. oddness...
mind you he's the only person i know with a winphone... a nokia lumia .. sad git but he helps pay the bills...lol
