RED ALERT WARNING: YouTube Engaging In A Digital 'Reign Of Terror'

In this video I examine YouTube's using the RIAA to strike down youtube-dl, one of the internet's most popular pieces of software which is fundamental to the free flow of information online.

Please be aware this is without precedent in internet history and dig in for a long fight and be prepared to support those at the forefront fighting against these digital terrorists and out of control despots who want to clamp down on the dissemination of information online.

Wow

Interesting, thanks for sharing. I did not know about this. I noticed that a lot of newer YouTube videos no longer worked properly with YouTube-DLG, but did not realize there was pressure from RIAA onto YouTube for making these programs no longer work.

.. and laughed in RIAA's face. They slinked away into their dark corner, planning their next strike no doubt or choosing another target. GitHub showed some of it's colors in even considering it though. Coders may want to consider mirroring or moving their repositories.

NEW YouTube Terms of Service

Got this email today:

You're receiving this email because we're updating the YouTube Terms of Service ("Terms") to clarify our terms and provide transparency to our users. These changes shouldn't significantly alter your access or use of the YouTube service.

A summary of the changes:

Facial recognition restrictions: The Terms of Service already state that you cannot collect any information that might identify a person without their permission. While this has always included facial recognition information, the new Terms make that explicitly clear.

YouTube's right to monetize: YouTube has the right to monetize all content on the platform and ads may appear on videos from channels not in the YouTube Partner Program.

Royalty payments and tax withholding: For creators entitled to revenue payments, such payments will be treated as royalties from a U.S. tax perspective and Google will withhold taxes where required by law.

Please make sure you read the updated Terms carefully. The new Terms will take effect on 18 November, 2020 for users in the U.S., and similar changes to our Terms of Service will be made outside the U.S. in 2021. By continuing to use YouTube after this date, you are agreeing to the new Terms. If you would like more information, visit our Help Center.

Please note, if you allow your child to use YouTube Kids, then you are agreeing to the new Terms on behalf of your child as well.

Highlights of new changes:
Service Provider. Your service provider is now Google LLC.
Businesses. Our Terms now make clear that, if you are using the Service on behalf of a company or organisation, that business accepts this Agreement.

Google LLC / YouTube has gone full selective censorship mode and made it near impossible to monetize or gain subs outside of the echo chamber unless you are part of the club. Of course we saw this coming, but a lot of people that accidentally stumbled onto unapproved curated content outside of their funnels will have great difficulty in reaching the wider audience. Alternative channels or simply talking to people out in the great wide world is potential way around this... the DNS and perhaps the onion router aren't going to be around forever.

It's called it the net or the web because that's what it always was. A trap. It was a good run of real free speech with such a magnitude of reach. Should be fun to see what pops up to get around all this jazz. A resurgence in HAM radio. Walkie talkies making a comeback. Hijacked carrier signals. Carrier pigeons with USB sticks. Welcome to internet 3.0.
