A former House of Commons official’s personal account - a learning experience that will surprise.

On a day-to-day basis, what does a newly elected Member of Parliament do? How does the House of Commons work? Drawing on his years of service to five majority and three minority parliaments, Rob Walsh shares first-hand insights into the inner workings of the House, beyond the political personalities that dominate its proceedings.

Inside this unique public and political institution, laws are made, taxes are imposed, political issues are debated, and the government is held to account on behalf of all Canadians. The House is the national stage on which democracy plays itself out between elections. Neither a procedural manual nor an academic critique, On the House reveals, from Walsh’s perspective, the historical origins of the House, its constitutional place in the parliamentary system, the role of committees, legislation, and administration, and its democratic functions. Providing a deeper understanding of both the House’s successes and its failures Walsh celebrates the value of parliamentary democracy while acknowledging the continuing challenges that face it.

On the House is a direct, accessible, and fascinating reflection on more than twenty years of experience in the House of Commons.

While somehow cultivating a global reputation as friendly and polite, in reality Canadians are an evil, demented people. When not busy clubbing baby seals, they eat the tails of their own national animal, the beaver!

They actually seem to enjoy them - even selling them to unsuspecting tourists right in the nation's capital!! What kind of sick freaks would do that??

To add insult to injury, they put absurd toppings on the beavers' tails, presumably to disguise their true origins. Disgusting!!

They have avoided the full wrath of the law by not killing the beavers that they maim - they are returned to the wild to be fobbed off as otters. Sad!!

EDIT: removed photo of uncooked beaver tails

I’m a Canadian. You’re full of shit.
I looked around on the internet. Found this guy. An outdoors man/ hunter showing
how to cook a beaver tail and why not to bother.. because it’s mostly fat.
Apparently there are still North Americans who trap.. skin for pelts and eat beaver.
Although the preferences seem to be things like moose and deer.

Some will eat anything. Our Chinese Canadians have a recipe for everything, and God bless the man
who first tried lobster..

Outside the bedroom.. Canadian beaver eaters are largely confined to pastry.
The cutsy pie shop you posted was purveyor of a this pastry called Beaver tail
which was what was in the pictures you posted.

OMG, you actually thought I was serious?

Nope. I never apologize for making jokes. Will you apologize for saying I'm full of shit?

" Canadians are evil demented people who maim animals by cutting off their tails then returning them to the wild?"
No I'm not going to apologize. Somehow I didn't see the humor or punchline in that smear which you now say was a joke.
Thanks for your many contributions to the site. Happy Trails.

How could anyone take a statement like that seriously?

I said it was a joke because it is blatantly obvious that it is.

BTW, I live only a couple of kilometres from the BeaverTails hut in the photograph. I can see the Peace Tower from my upstairs windows. You need to lighten up.
