Did you lose hope that ConCen would return?

I understand if you did... that was a long downtime. So what happened? What did you do wrong this time??

An operating system upgrade was aborted in progress. This left the OS barely bootable.

What caused it? The hosting provider enabled a monitoring feature that pings the server, rebooting it if the ping fails. Guess what happens when doing an operating system upgrade? The server is offline. Pings fail. Server hard rebooting in the middle of an upgrade = unusable state.

I disabled their brutal sledgehammer monitor "service" before, but it was somehow enabled again. They deny it was their end, so FUCK IT, moving on. The hosting provider is inexpensive and you get what you pay for.

My fault anyway, TBH. I should have a less work intensive way of rebuilding ConCen, but put off the work because it was throwing good code after bad.

I am trying to make the site more resilient to disasters, and also add some shiny new features.

Stay tuned, and don't lose faith in the ability of ConCen to rise from the ashes of its frequent burnings...

Yes, I am guilty of losing hope. Not knowing what was happening made me sad. I love this site. Thank you very very much for the hard work and hard time you put in in solving the problem and restoring the hope (and 'stuff') we love so much. Thanks again.

I oscillated between a few different possibilities. The first thought was a DDOS attack. Then I assumed all of my hardcore left-leaning content (joke) aggravated everyone, and nibs just gave up on the site and let it go offline. Since I didn't see any indication of the site being worked on, and all the torrents were offline, I never suspected it was another failed upgrade! Great news, thanks for bringing it back from the abyss! I will try to find content to continue to share here in the near future.

I never lost hope to begin with tbh. I knew the site would be back as downtime is quite frequent (frankly speaking)

You are correct; ConCen has been down or semi broken frequently these last few years. I might have a solution that doesn't rely on the hosting provider...
