Drugs as Weapons Against Us presents evidence that the CIA manipulated musicians and activists to promote illegal drugs for social control, particularly targeting individuals in the Civil Rights and anti-war movements. Evidence further supports that intelligence agents murdered some of these musicians and activists when they started sobering up and stopped promoting drugs. Targeted musicians and activists included Tupac Shakur, Kurt Cobain, John Lennon and Jimi Hendrix, as well the anti-war SDS and The Black Panthers. The long history of drug trafficking includes British and American wars over international drug-producing regions. Wealthy American families who enriched themselves on the drug trade became entrenched in US Intelligence. The CIA and Pentagon influenced the launch of Americas longest wars in the top opium-producing poppy field regions of Vietnam and Afghanistan. The CIA also ran covert operations to control cocaine-producing regions in Central and South America.

Yes.
They did.
I still don't know about Kurt
I still don't know about Kurt Cobain - I was huge into Nirvana as a teenager, and the general consensus was that he was a fucked up, heroin addicted rock star with severe depression who blew his brains out. But I guess you never know!
The rest of the stuff seems pretty legit. Only part I question is why the US government made all the drugs illegal in the early 70s, or whenever it was - maybe it was more profitable for the CIA and black market for it to be illegal...
I believe making something
I believe making something you sell illegal allows you to make more money at it, and also eliminate the competition.
a corporate, for profit
a corporate, for profit prison system starting in the early, mid 80's would add to the incentive / stand to garner a healthy return as well.
Another layer to the mystery
Another layer to the mystery I have never really understood is how the overall conspiracy theory here suggests that all psychedelics, LSD and mushrooms, were ultimately used as mind control agents of social change, that is somehow ALL nefarious and evil, for lack of a better word. But for hundreds of thousands of years, cultures worldwide have used psychedelic sacraments that were seen as spiritually transformative and beneficial to the individuals and cultures as a whole. It's usually referred to as "shamanism", and is basically the oldest religion or spirituality in the world, which can be found everywhere, since the beginning, and before, recorded human history. So when you compare that point of view with the conspiracy theory that psychedelics damage the brain etc, it's hard for me to understand that all in a historical context. There must be some discrepancies here...
