The "Masks of God" is a four-volume study of world religion and myth that stands as one of Joseph Campbell’s masterworks, and his most comprehensive attempt to lay out his theories of the history of myth and religion.

As near as I can tell, this is the first time the four volumes are shared in audiobook format as a complete set. Enjoy!

The Masks of God, Volume 1: Primitive Mythology

Looks at the wellsprings of myth. From the earliest expressions of religious awe in pre-modern humans to the rites and art of contemporary primal tribes, myth has informed humankind’s understanding of the world, seen and unseen. Exploring these archetypal mythic images and practices, Campbell examines the basic concepts that underlie all human myth, even to this day.

Parts include:

* Toward a Natural History of the Gods and Heroes
* The Psychology of Myth
* The Mythology of Primitive Planters
* The Mythology of Primitive Hunters
* The Archaeology of Myth
* The Functioning of Myth

The Masks of God, Volume 2: Oriental Mythology

Looks at Asian mythology as it developed over the course of five thousand years into the distinctive religions of Egypt, Mesopotamia, India, China, and Japan.

Parts include:

* The Separation of East and West
* The Mythologies of India
* The Mythologies of the Far East

The Masks of God, Volume 3: Occidental Mythology

This is a systematic and fascinating comparison of the themes that underlie the art, worship, and literature of the western world.

Parts include:

* The Age of the Goddess
* The Age of Heroes
* The Age of the Great Classics
* The Age of the Great Beliefs

The Masks of God, Volume 4: Creative Mythology

Looks at the European mythology of individualism as it took flower in medieval Europe and spread, through the Renaissance, to influence modernist thought, art, and literature. Explore the power of myth as it exploded from twelfth century Europe into the modern world.

Parts include:

* The Ancient Vine
* The Waste Land
* The Way and the Life
* New Wine

If anybody has the first volume in smaller files, please kindly share

Thanks for sharing this. I remember coming across the .m4b versions of this series on a site called Bibliotik. I think I archived them on the other ebook/audiobook tracker, but I never converted them to .mp3. I am trying the first one now, but it looks like it gets stuck at 94% and doesn't convert the last portion of the book: Part 4 (file 17 of 17 chapters). That could be why it was never converted along with all the other ones, something wrong in the original rip perhaps...

Many thanks for trying...what software do you use to split one file into component parts?

Also, now that I have started to listen to audiobooks while walking outdoors, what Android software works best for this purpose? My main issue at the moment is that my books don't restart where I left off -- they go back to the start of the file. Any suggestions?

edit: I should add that I play them from the cloud -- I don't want to put them directly on my phone

Some very clever programmer found a way to get Audible audiobooks, which come in their own proprietary audio stream technology so that they only play on their own program online or on your computer, and got it to decrypt and take the information out of their format and place it into an mp3 container, or any other format you choose. M4B audiobooks remember where you left off, whereas MP3 does not, but if an audiobook is split into chapters, you can usually figure out where you were by which filename/chapter you left off on. I don't stream or play audio on my Android, but maybe somebody else here might have some suggestions. I still use an iPod and also play audio off my laptop...

p.s. I can message you a private link to inAudible, which is the program for ripping from Audible and any other format that is related to their audio, like .m4b and .m4a etc. It seems to be hidden away on private audiobook tracker tutorials on forums.

Seems bibliotik has closed registration. Shame.

MyAnonomouse.net is actually better, more uploads and way more downloads, point system, VIP etc. If you are not on there and want an invite, just PM me your email address.

Corsair, if you want to send me, I can convert to mp3 and other formats. I do these for the Mam, with no problem

Corsair, just downloading so let me know if you want me to send mp3's.

Sure, if you are able to successfully break Volume 1 into mp3 chapters, feel free to send me a Filemail (if you can zip and send as a link, I can share that link with euxalot as well). I was able to extract almost the entire audiobook, but it kept getting stuck at 94%, so I assumed there was an error in the original .m4b rip.

Sending. There did not appear to be an error - see how you go and please let me know if you have any probs.

Thank you very much, I got it! Before I had gotten inAudible to separate the different chapters of the book, all except for the very last one! But I am sure it is still there, but couldn't get it separated out of the one large file. Sometimes people like the chapterized versions of audiobook rips because they are unable to get back to where they left off on a larger unsplit file, but overall I guess .mp3 is still the most popular audio format. Thanks again.

Hi, are you able to share the smaller files?

It was encoded from a single .m4b file to a single .mp3 file, so it was not able to be made into chapterized smaller files. Sorry.

All good, but thanks to you and Jewels for your efforts! Amazing aces, all!
