Huston Smith is widely regarded as one of the most influential writers in the field of religious studies. More importantly -- to me, at least -- is the fact that he writes really well and is easy to understand. If you like the insights of Joseph Campbell, you will doubly-like how much easier it is to read Smith.

He authored at least thirteen books on world's religions and philosophy, and his book "The World's Religions "(originally titled The Religions of Man) sold over three million copies as of 2017 and remains a popular introduction to comparative religion.

The Illustrated version of this books is one of the best entry points to understand the various religions:

Thanks so much for sharing here. Although I collected many Joseph Campbell books back in the day, after seeing his The Power of Myth series, I never really caught on to Huston Smith, but have heard a lot about him.

cheers...Bill Moyers did a five-part PBS special on Smith's life and work in 1996 called The Wisdom of Faith....I'll try to find it

I can't access it, but it is on Amazon Prime video if any of the gods here can pry it free from their servers?

Nice, that can probably be arranged. I did happen across an old Xvid (3.38gb) copy of it on PTP, but unfortunately it was unseeded. There are also mp3 copies of the series floating around as well.
