Obama extends Patriot Act.

President Obama signed the renewal of the Patriot Act -- an omnibus security bill passed in the wake of 9/11 that civil libertarians argue amounts to a major roll-back of civil rights. Despite criticizing the Patriot Act as a symbol of the police state and the potential loss of civil liberties, Democrats passed the extension with little debate, failing to get the votes needed to insert privacy safeguards into the law. So why did the Democrats give up? And did Obama fails to protect Americans' privacy?
