Pastor Joe Schimmel, founder of Good Fight Ministries (www.goodfight.org), reveals the overt and clear Gnostic spiritual teaching and doctrine intentionally imbedded in Hollywood’s recent blockbuster movies to counter Judeo-Christian belief, with host “Doctor Future” and co-host Tom Bionic, airing daily during the week of 25 October on the “Future Quake” program, broadcast on the Christian talk radio station WENO, 760 AM in Nashville, TN (and archived at http://www.futurequake.com). Pastor Schimmel is best known for his best-selling documentary, “They Sold Their Souls For Rock and Roll”, and numerous other similar productions, including a number of collaborations with colleague and popular filmmaker Chris Pinto, as well as being a featured performer in his works. This interview focuses on his popular independent production, entitled “Hollywood’s War on God”. In it, he makes his case that the most popular cerebral science-fiction and fantasy movies from recent years have been consistently presenting a well-defined and classic Gnostic worldview that has influenced the religious beliefs of the public to a considerable extent, and particularly the younger generation. He begins in this interview by clearly defining what the essential doctrines and cosmology of classic Gnosticism comprises, including their belief in a panoply of “senior” gods, the Goddess Sophia and her “evil” demiurge Creator god offspring Jehovah who then created the “evil” material world, and the attempt of humans to escape such material existence via the assistance of Sophia, and her assistant the Serpent in the Garden. He explains that Hollywood movie critics and writers like Richard Stanley clearly state that they and their fellow Hollywood entertainment producers are embracers of Gnostic beliefs, and promote them in their productions. Popular writers and actors in such efforts such as Philip K. Dick and Keanu Reeves are also quoted as tapping into external spiritual entities when practicing their craft. A particular focus is given to Alan Moore, a veritable laureate of the graphic novel, whose popular and ground-breaking works such as “V for Vendetta”, “From Hell”, “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” and “Watchmen” have been brought to the big screen, and who is a practicing magician and purveyor of Aleister Crowley’s legacy. The clear embedding in his works of sympathies for Satan, tributes to Crowley’s teachings, as well as representations of Adam and Eve in the Garden are shown. These teachings also are the core of movies like “The Da Vinci Code”, which polls have confirmed have changed the religious beliefs of millions of viewers. Other seemingly innocuous movies, such as “Fight Club”, “Pleasantville” and “The Truman Show”, are also shown to have well-defined Gnostic ideology in this knowledge-expanding discussion.
