This documentary tells the story of Rochdale College, one of the most controversial social experiments to ever have taken place in Canada. Established in 1968 as a free university and student residence, Rochdale was meant to be an enlightened community of self-educators, with teachers and students living side by side in a 18-storey building in downtown Toronto. Instead, Rochdale rapidly became a meeting place for North America’s burgeoning drug culture, with artists and educators jousting for position with motorcycle gangs and drug dealers.
Narrated by Paul Evitts, Rochdale's first student, Dream Tower depicts the delirious construction and deconstruction of a building that harboured some of the freest spirits in Canada.
