He was the inertial navigation supervisor on the SR71 Blackbird project at Area 51. Later he earned a master’s and Ph.D. in psychology at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Dr. Budzynski was one of the pioneers in the area of biofeedback, and has developed a number of biofeedback instruments along with John Picchiottino. I believe that sleep learning is much more effective than conventional learning. First of all because most people are tense when the feel the need to learn anything, whereas during your sleep you're completely relaxed, and the more relaxed you are, the more easily your mind will absorb new information. The ideal method would be resting in a floatation tank, also called a samadhi tank, while learning. The learning curve must be quite phenomenal in there. Another advantage is the fact that you don't waste any time for learning anything, since you have to sleep anyway. Some people may leave their body for astral projection while asleep, but this doesn't matter here, since your biocomputer will also absorb the information without you being there, as odd as this may sound. It's subconscious anyway, meaning your awareness or spirit doesn't participate in the absorption of data anyway. And then, most people are quite neurotic and have personality problems. You'd be amazed to learn how many people actually believe they're stupid, but in most cases that's a problem with their self-esteem, rather than their intelligence. I know people who are quite stupid, and yet they don't think so, on the other hand, there are people who are highly intelligent, feeling quite dumb. So there's a kind of psychological obstacle here, this conviction that you're stupid blocks the absorption of new data. Deep inside you have a negative self-image that doesn't permit you having elaborate language skills, because having such skills would increase your self-esteem, and this would be conflicting with the conditions imposed onto you by your personality structure. In other words: You're acting, you're acting being stupid, because in your childhood you've made the experience that this is a convenient survival strategy. And when you're acting being stupid, you simply cannot have any language skills, since such skills would interfere with your negative self-image. Imaginary "dumb people" simply cannot speak foreign languages perfectly well - in case English is a foreign language for you. Your subconscious mind is literally simulating language errors to avoid any cognitive incoherence with your negative self-image.
