5.4 rare Illinois Earthquake
This is the first time I ever noticed an earthquake in the central US. I thought I was going nuts or the chair was
breaking or I rolled over a power cord or something. That was scary. It was a 5.4 and there was only
one real jolt for maybe a second then nothing.

How do you good people who live in earthquake prone areas deal with this kind of thing?

It was immediately followed by a 3.0 in Nevada.

This heightened quake activity around our world has now officially hit home with me. Literally.

We NEVER have anything approaching that here (at least that I have noticed). I have been here my whole life and never felt one before. This may be tied for biggest quake here since the New Madrid Zone event which
reversed the course of the Missouri river.

had one here in the north east not to long ago was rated as 3.0 I think. The ground did not really shake just a rumble but it was enough to get me up and check the house and yard for the simple fact I was not sure what it was at the time.the next day it was on the news in the mourning that's when I realized what happened or what it was.

I thought it was pretty wild. I'm probably 130 miles from the epicenter. The bed started shaking then bouncing and the monitor started shaking then almost but not quite shaking off of the desk. It went on here for about 5-7 seconds. I was thinking "Wow! That was an earthquake! Cool!".
It's right up my alley as I like to stand out in storms and take in the power and beauty, kind of like I did when Katrina passed over my house and watching tornadoes moving a block away from another house.
