UK robo-bugs to swarm battlegrounds
Quote:Troops would soon be using an army of robotic insects as British defense giant is set to save the soldiers' lives with its bugs of war.

British defense firm BAE Systems is creating a series of tiny electronic spiders, dragonflies and snakes that could become the eyes and ears of American and British soldiers on the battlefield.

The company is reportedly working on the production line for an "autonomous, multifunctional collection of miniature intelligence-gathering robots that can operate in places too inaccessible or dangerous for humans".

The soldiers would be able to carry their robot insects with them, and send them as a swarm into buildings, caves, and enemy hideouts.

According to the Daily Mail, the company has signed a £19 million contract with the US Army to develop the technology.

The little flying and slithering electronic creatures would be equipped with small cameras and sensors to detect chemical, biological or even radioactive weapons.

The British Defense Ministry, however, declined to comment on the report.
