Yet another mark in the "PRO" column for cannabis:

“Cannabinoids may not only offer symptom control but may also slow … disease progression”

London, United Kingdom: Cannabinoids possess neuroprotective properties and may modify the progression of multiple sclerosis (MS), according to a review published in the journal Current Pharmaceutical Design.

Investigators at the London School of Medicine, Neuroscience Center reported that cannabinoids likely hold therapeutic value for MS patients beyond providing temporary symptomatic relief.

“Recent clinical trials may indeed suggest that cannabis has some potential to relieve, pain, spasms and spasticity in MS,” authors wrote. “In addition, CB(1) and CB(2) cannabinoid receptor stimulation may also have anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective potential. Therefore cannabinoids may not only offer symptom control but may also slow the neurodegenerative disease progression that ultimately leads to the accumulation of disability.”

A recent expert opinion paper published by the US National Multiple Sclerosis Society concluded that cannabis possesses the potential to treat MS symptoms as well as moderate disease progression, but stopped short of recommending that patients use it therapeutically.

Survey data indicates that an estimated one in four patients with MS use medicinal cannabis.

Show me those medical reports as I would be most interested to see them.....since they don't exist.

I wrote that a long time ago, Ive changed since then and did research. It does not kill brain cells, that was a bullshit study during (Reagans?) time where they suffocated monkeys and said it was proof it kills brain cells.
Im pro marijuana and hemp now, even though I never got high.:content:

Its still expensive, I wont try it in fear of me likeing it too much and having it interfere with my studies. Maybe sometime in the future when my life is set straight and I could grow it on my own.

I had to pretty much give up smoking, every time I got high I wound up wanting to get a life but lost the ability to think effectively. I thought of great things but they were unrelated to anything useful and came and went randomly. I still don't think too effectively but at least my train of thought does not jump track arbitrarily as much. Must have been all the paraquat or whatever it was the American's dusted Mexico with in the 70's, either that or plant breeding for spaciness and not the other more beneficial effects in the last twenty years. Besides you just can get good hash anymore, all I've seen and none of it lately was like road tar.

If it killed brain cells I'd have none at all.

I'd smelled rather nice smells at jazz festivals (in the days when I was a singer/bass-guitarist) in the early sixties, but didn't find out for myself until 1967 when my younger brother turned me on.

I was living in Chalk Farm by then, and "shared the rounds" with thousands of undergraduates in North London. People were buzzing to and fro, coming back from pleasantly exotic places like Amsterdam, Marseilles, Bombay, Bangkok, Cape Town, Durban, Lebanon, and bearing beautiful resinous lumps for shared smoking pleasure, of a quality I have rarely seen since.

One could roll up in front of a British bobby at that time without incurring the slightest risk of displeasure. What a time!

Since then, progressively, I have seen a propagandized change in public attitude to dope, and to hippies - a change from fearless ignorance and incomprehension to fearful (and fearsome) semi-awareness, hatred and disgust. And it's simply a benificent HERB.

Also, tragically, my sister succombed to MS in the mid-eighties, and through ignorance and fear was prevented the relief she might have obtained from medicinal cannabis. She very slowly became paralyzed, blind, and dumb over twenty years, but is being looked after now with a greater thoroughness and care than any British institution could muster in a tailor-made, state-of-the-art, nursing home in a suburb of Madrid.

It was a dreadful shame. I was ashamed for myself and my country!

These days I live abroad, too poor to indulge myself in such a pleasure. Golden Virginia for me. That's my lot. I'm luckier than my sister...
