CRAZYWISE, directed by Phil Borges and Kevin Tomlinson, is a feature documentary exploring alternative treatments for mental illness.

CRAZYWISE centers around Adam, 29, a former wakeboard champion who struggles with his sanity following a psychotic break. Desperate and feeling shame from being labeled with a potential lifelong disease, Adam embraces meditation. Later, after revealing his mental diagnosis, Adam is turned away from future meditation retreats. He becomes homeless, alienated from his family and is living alone out of a friend's car.

A 20-year fascination with shamanism leads photographer and filmmaker Phil Borges to question how Western culture defines and treats severe mental disorders. While documenting Adam's story, Phil becomes increasingly aware of the severity of the mental health crisis in America. He discovers an emerging, survivor-led movement supported by a passionate group of renowned mental health professionals, activists and scholars who are advocating for alternatives to the biomedical based standards by which most mental illness is currently defined and treated.

oh brother.... any time you see someone called themselves a shaman, you are dealing with a freaking imposter... Shamans do not advertise themselves and they look as normal as anybody else..

True, but that's not the case.

Psychiatry is in the employ of the state. The state requires workers/slaves and if people cannot conform it labels them and tries to 'cure' them.

Of course there are some legitimate mental disorders with brain abnormalities, genetic defects and so on so one must not confuse all disorders as being bunk.

However a large proportion of such disorders stem from inadequate parenting which in itself is derived from the parents attempting to mould the child into a good citizen/slave. Also psychological problems are rarely addressed as long as the individual is displaying no drop in work related efficiency.

If there is a silver lining in the increase of depressive symptoms across technologically advanced nations it is that it is 'normal' to have those reactions in the type of world we live in and are moving towards so solutions will be sought. What is prolonging the problem is people are advocating more of what is the root cause of depressive symptoms namely increased technology.

For instance increased technological society has a dehumanizing aspect due to its requirements of increased worker efficiency for less reward. This is usually blamed on capitalism yet finds its perfection in socialism. This dehumanizing aspect hinders relationships yet the need for them remains thus some solutions advocate a technological solution such as robot sex partners which will only continue the dehumanizing trend and lead to more depressive symptoms, suicides and abnormal behaviours, some of which may be legitimised by the state provided it retains the masses in employment.

Simply put we are living in a world where we are contributing to our own demise. We legitimise the very technologies that speed up the inability for generations to relate to each other and thus seek surrogate meaning in essentially creating the world desired by the dominant forces of the world - and the day they have no use for the masses is the day they will eliminate them.

The issues of technology and the idea of progress are the real issues, not capitalism, socialism, politics, banking or religion. All of those concepts can be understood immediately when you see how they help increased technology and progress. They are propaganda pieces to deflect attention from how progress actually shapes modern civilized action while simultaneously ensuring we continue to progress towards something nobody has defined.

That is not necessarily to say technology is inherently 'bad' but at the moment technology dictates human action not the other way round meaning it is not being used to address human needs hence why its current use creates mental/psychological/emotional/spiritual disorders.

Technology does seem to appease the powers that be however and they essentially shape society. There is obviously something in technology that they would prefer the rest of us to have and that is basically the ability to be programmed and to be put to use without answering back or having needs that are a hindrance to the system. The powers that be are slaves to progress and efficiency meaning they are cut off from their own humanity which they attempt to enforce on their populations.

Civilized humanity's ruling class and its increasing consciousness set it on a course to seperate itself from its creator whether that be God or nature. Consequently it has embarked upon behaviours that threaten to destroy its roots and this has been passed on to technology for as it increases its own awareness, it too will turn on its creator - man.

Efficiency and progress dictate it.

if a selfproclaimed shaman, the first thing they do is to show you a pricelist, then they are not to be taken seriously.........
