Electoral campaign in Norway 2013
On September 9th this year, Norway will hold parliamentary election. In March, I was nominated as first candidate for the Coastal Party in Buskerud county - see www.fampo.no/nomination2013.html.

I will use the opportunity to adress the main problem in Norway today - corruption and conspiracies. You can read about this topic at www.fampo.no/n.html.

I do not expect that the local media will give my campaign against abuse of power much attention. But I can at least participate in the school election debates and deliver my message to almost all youths aged 15 1/2 to 18 1/2 in the county. I did that 4 years ago in two schools in Buskerud. You can read about that here. This time, I am the first candidate and can use that in my speech.

IMO, poli-tricks are part of the system and no matter who you are (i.e. I'm a good guy who is better than the other candidates) or what plateform you represent (i.e. our ideas are better than those of the other candidates) it all amounts to the same; illusion of change, puppets acting out a role, manipulating people to beLIEve the system can be fixed from within.

Replacing one poli-trickster with another will not change the shitstem, not in any meaningful way, not for the sort of results we seek. Given the current situation non-participation in the system seems to be what is needed; emancipation first, rebuilding after.

Some may start off honest (assuming that is what you're about) and beLIEve they can change things that are external to themselve, but you can only climb the ladder of corruption if you can fit the role they want you to play. Ambition seems to get the best; either they are moulded to fit in or they quit playing once they figure out the ruse.

Good luck

Non participation in elections excludes some possibilities that are worth using. As I mentioned, exposing the Norwegian elite is not something Norwegian media wants to take part in. An editor who published info on cases where Fampo provided documentation, was fired for that. So one has to do other things instead; create a website, hand out flyers and so on to inform people. An electoral campaign is an opportunity to do things like that. With or without the assistance of the media. For instance, I look forward to speaking to about 6,000 youth in the schools in Buskerud.

And there is an alternative to both fitting in to politics and leaving it. It is to participate in politics, and when the others do not follow the official rules, then tell the public. Give the opponents of the corrupt system the documentation and arguments that they can use. One Norwegian politician who can be used as a good example is Erling Folkword from the far left party Red. He was MP during one parliamentary period (93-97). In 1996 he proposed an investigation into an ugly case where a Norwegian dissident, Arnold Juklerød who had died a few months earlier, had been forced into psychiatry. Only 6 MPs voted in favour of hte proposal.

Admittedly, proposing this did not change anything. But the fault was not on Folkvord, but on grass root activists and ordinary people who did not scream out about this. The proposal from the MP represented an opportunity. The same goes for activity outside the parliamentary system. You can do something good, but it does not help if people smile politely or yawn at you.

Getting elected in a political office can increase your presence in media coverage but, if you have a radical (in the etymological sense) message, is not necessarily a good thing. Most likely you will be targeted in smear campaigns, misrepresentations of your message, etc. Still, that's better than nothing, especially when you cross the bridge from ridicule to opposition. Ron Paul is a good example of how marginally effective such a strategy can be. Huge amounts of resources were invested in him with little to show for.

Now the election is over. I got 0,1 % of the votes. Not exactly a victory, but it was an increase from the 2 009 election (135 votes, compared to 109 in 2 009). Anyway I got the opportunity to speak to about 6 000 pupils and got 1,0 % in the school election. That was a decrease from 2 009, but the decrease for my party was larger in other counties than Buskerud: http://www.samfunnsveven.no/skolevalg/resultat/parti/29 ("stemmer" means "votes", "endring" means "change" and "fylke" means "county").

More important in this connection is the fact that my election campaign provocated the media to censor me, see http://www.fampo.no/article_deleted_in_norwegian_election_campaign.html
