McDonald's head chef says no products are unhealthy
Quote:During a recent interview, Daniel Coudreaut, Director of Culinary Innovation, denied responsibility for America's obesity epidemic bluntly stating: "I don't see anything on the menu that's unhealthy."

Mr Coudreaut is arguably the most powerful 'chef' in America, ultimately responsible for 26 million meals per day.

Mr Coudreaut is relaxed about McDonald's role in fighting obesity, instead placing an emphasis on choice, balance and moderation.

He argues that burgers, French fries and milkshakes can all be factored into a healthy diet.

"I feel that if we were to close our doors of all of the McDonald's tomorrow, the obesity problem would not go away," he said.

Despite this, Coudreaut feels a responsibility to his own children, aged 11 and 7. They are only allowed to eat at McDonald's once a week and Mr Coudreaut ensures that he controls "what goes into their mouths".

With a degree from the Culinary Institute of America, Mr Coudreaut joined McDonald's in 2004, the same year that Morgan Spurlock's 'Super Size Me' inadvertently increased McDonald's customer base by 1 million.

I would watch this before just assuming McDonald's is unhealthy and the cause of obesity. While their food is terriblee, and they are not healthy (mostly the oils they fry with), they are not as bad as they are made out to be (health wise... flavour wise they are terrible). Check out Fat Head the Movie.

McDonald´s is unhealthy, but only unhealthy people choose to eat their SHIT. it´s their CHOICE. no matter what kind of fake bullshit gets thrown around, the choice to eat at mickey hepD´s is their choice. You can´t even blame this on the ¨Socialist¨ food stamp program...

You could blame it on the genetic engineering/pharmaceutical/insurance/banking/degraded food supply... ¨cabal¨.

...but that would be sacrilegious, wouldn't it?

I was thinking the same thing. How do they know that it was directly due to the documentary ? Eyebrow

I know heavier folks that don't eat fast food…  maybe the definition of fast food needs to change… drastically! Processed stuff, preserved in cans or packages that cover the shelves and aisles of grocery stores and super markets might as well receive the title also! Lots of dine in restraunts deemed to look classier then the reputation fast food gets is no better.
That documentary Ingreedients comes to mind immediately…

Please don´t get me wrong - even though I blame those who CHOOSE to consume that garbage, I don´t always walk to the businesses that are conscious. I eat crap, too, and thats the issue. Ive consciously chosen not to eat carcass for over 15 years now... And I can´t escape eating total crap either. If you're cool with what mickyHepC´s promoting or can´t get away, you've got no reason to be defensive.

April, when you mention dine in restaurants... My first thought was "Applebee's!". Seriously. If you did not know, they microwave their food, and some internet sources say (and a friend I have who worked there told me this as well) the lines on the meat from "grilling" were fake... How they do it I do not know. But most of it is prepackaged garbage microwaved and over-priced.

As far as McD's goes, they are unhealthy. There was the silly pink slime scandal, but as I said before, pink slime is not the worst of it... However, In all fairness, they do not promote obesity and such as much as we would like to blame them. All I am really saying is a burger and some fries will not make you bloat like a blimp. Now maybe their half (if that) meat half tvp burger and super large aspartame filled diet soda, you know, to lose weight, might. But people know this. One might almost say it is inherent for people with any basic level of understanding about food and this world to know what is good and what is bad, generally speaking. Ask people on the side of the street, they can easily tell you soda is not good, and nor are microwave dinners or zebra cakes. Will that stop them? Not at all. Heck, this insanely calorific restaurant named the Heart Attack Grill still attracted people.

McD's is bad, but people know that when they go there. However, unlike Super Size Me, it is not the very bane of society and backbone of all that is unhealthy. Many factors contribute to the problem, not some collective metaphysical concept known as "fast food" or even the more broad "junk food". But we [should] all know that.
