Radio Shack - Too Big to Fail Chinese Scams - Spread
I bought a table Tripod, upon setting it up, it collapsed on the table. Went back to radio shack and the working on commission teddy bears refused to take it back. They called the manager and the manager specifically refused to take it back. It is urged to all interested customers that before you purchase anything from radio shack, if breakage accurs that you make sure you get an exchange or money back. This one electronic store has terrible customer service, rude preppy on commission employees, and managers that hang the phone on purpose on you when requesting assistance. But this is the type of products we get when our government has turned away from the protection of consumers and letting corporations and bad manufactured products infiltrate an asleep population. We have the 99c stores for the 99 percent people, while the 1 percent do not really shop in stores that sell badly manufactured products from China, but yet the elites and Radio Shack Bandits make money on the hard earned money most people inside Americon strive to survive on what little securities they have. Surely , we can get better products in Second-Hand-Stores than Radio Shack.
--

I bought a camera at Radio Shack for over $300. I accidentally dropped the camera, it didn't work properly anymore, and came back after less a few days to return it or at least to get it repaired. The rude girl at the desk, from which I bought the camera, refused to take it back, and her excuse was " It looks like somebody DRUNK dropped it."
!!!
I was shocked. I work in front of them and never went back. I rather drive somewhere else. Terrible customer service. This happened two years ago and I am still very upset about it. I also found out that they work on commission so it is not convenient for them to accept returns. I hate Radio Shack. Now I only buy online from Amazon - they have much better prices and a much better customer service.

I went to a radio shack in arroyo grande, CA a few weeks and spoke for a long time with an employee regarding my electronics from Ireland. He guarenteed me this certain converter and adapter would work with my phone charger, hair straightner and hairdryer. It was fine with my phone charger but when I plugged in my straightner there was smoke and sparks and it blew three sockets in our home. Ive talked to the manager who was extremely rude, the district manager who was also rude and risk management. Risk management told me radio shack is responsible. Now the district manager is saying they're not responsible and risk management said they aren't. I need to know the next step and who I can contact. My straightner alone was $225. The manager also wont allow me to return this converter, saying that that is up to Corporate. But Corporate said its up to the store. Thank you.

Radio Shack - Rude store attendant & manager Radio Shack - Stay away from these guys Radio Shack - selling off OLD computers to suckers like me Radio Shack - Bad service Radio Shack - Bad service Radio Shack - Wrongfully terminated! Radio Shack - Horrible customer service Radio Shack - The manager was very rude to me Radio Shack - Very unpleasant experience Radio Shack - GPS useless service

Radio Shack is a franchise. If you get bad service at one store, go to another one.

There is a Radio Shack close to where I work... They are nice people there, but not the most helpful. However, late at night, when no one comes in, I hear them crank up their music so loud it goes through the walls as they party in the back... I am somewhat envious. I would have to agree with Yeti, though, all depends where you go. Some are nice, some are rude, and sadly it is not just limited to Radio Shack. In the end, people are people. Never did like Radio Shack, though, all made in China malfunctioning items.

Now, Office Depot, although still made in China, are wonderful people. At least the one near me. My hard drive broke, and the deal was $50 or something like that, and if they cannot get the info, refund. He could not fix it, but went through extra lengths he did not have to, then helped get me an awesome deal for a new 2tb hard drive (better than the sale price deal). Wasn't a scam, I had my friend who knows more than I could dream of about technology with me, and he was saying it was a reliable brand. Every time I go in there, the people are always nice and put up with silly questions when asked.

Your friend needs to wake up to the fact that when it comes to hard drives, the brand name is no longer relevant. All the top brands have in the past and recently made models of drives that had very high failure rates.

The safest way to shop for drives is to not buy a model that is less than a month old, and to search the internet for failure rates by model.

yeti: Customer reviews are valuable for all products, and, indeed, these days brand name generally does means shit when it comes to specific types of hardware such as hard drives. However, this is no excuse to not do the research first (unless one wants the extra work and frustration on their shoulders).

Relying on "techs" to do things for oneself is setting oneself up for a fail, with all due respect to those of us techs who know what we're doing. A client of mine was given a computer preinstalled with XP by someone who was supposed to know what they were doing, and she asked me to make sure it was set up to her specs. My first act was to make sure the latest drivers were installed, upon which the machine became unbootable due to an update that shouldn't have been installed (which any tech should have known had their head been elsewhere than up their posterior). I had to wipe the thing and start from scratch, and now it runs like a dream.

Yeah, do the research yourselves, people. If you see any complaints on the product while looking at customer reviews, look at other models. Always check out at least a half dozen models before making a decision. Do NOT visit the Web site of the company producing the product for reviews because they will, more often than not, delete any unfavourable reviews.

Finally, mexika, if you do purchase hardware, it's important to treat it like gold. There is no "accidentally dropping things" if you take the right precautions and value your purchases like you should be. Though the "rude girl at the desk" had no right to say what she did, she's probably encountered a lot of people who "accidentally" drop things to return them, and gets yelled at by the manager because he gets in shit for losing money due to people "accidentally" dropping things. The thought would certainly go through my head as it did her own.

And, finally, people who would rather complain than work to change things get everything they deserve. Change your methodology, Mexika, and life becomes considerably more tolerable.

Well Yeti, I don't know what to tell you other than my friend owns a computer store, and does a lot with computers, and the hard drive works better than the last one. I would tell you the name and model (just got done trying to look), however, I would have to turn off and dismantle my tower unit a bit, which I am too lazy to do. I do agree most new items they come out with are not worth it, but I trust my friend since he owns a computer shop, custom builds professional computers all the time, and is an honest guy who is well researched. Friend likes it, works great for me, got a sweet deal. I think that is about all that matters.

What he meant to say was that the hard drive was a good model, not brand. Revision numbers are important too.

Icon_winkYou are probably right, and he may have said that. Personally, I am more of a health nut, rather than a techie... Although I would not mind, there is a geek side of me.Icon_wink
