Interesting Social Experiment :: KONY 2012

Video  Interesting Social Experiment :: KONY 2012
KONY 2012. An interesting social experiment to sell Technochratic Democracy via Social Justice. My bet is that it will work and Joseph Kony will be thrown as a bone to the wolves, people will cheer and feel empowered, thus pacifying the pill of global technochratic rule.

Wonder how it would apply past the Kony Campaign with them other crimminals and psychopaths. Feel free to use this thread to make some suggestions for round two and maybe we can hijack this and turn the table on this an truly empower the people, inverting the pyramid.

One of two things would happen at that stage. Protest and Clickactivism is exposed as moot OR we actually do have a voice. Worth a shot IMO.

KONY 2012 is a film and campaign by Invisible Children that aims to make Joseph Kony famous, not to celebrate him, but to raise support for his arrest and set a precedent for international justice.

The video I saw had something like 7 million views- most of them within days. So to call it an experiment? yeah possibly...
I was just looking into this as my brother was asking me to watch the video cuz of some ruckus on facebook about this. I was like "dude, this shits been going on for years, this is nothing new" - instincts kicked in and I started looking into this.
Although the problems in africa are real, this Invisible Children charity and its supposed social activism is nonsense, and could possibly be even worse for the people of Africa once the "global community" gets involved. We all know how that goes.

I was just going to link that up.

Here are some highlights.

IC has a low two-star rating in accountability from Charity Navigator because they won’t let their financials be independently audited.

By IC’s own admission, only 31% of all the funds they receive go toward actually helping anyone.

The group is in favour of direct military intervention, and their money supports the Ugandan government’s army and various other military forces. Here’s a photo of the founders of Invisible Children posing with weapons and personnel of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army.

The Lord’s Resistance Army is bad news. And Joseph Kony is a very bad man, and needs to be stopped. But propping up Uganda’s decades-old dictatorship and its military arm, which has been accused by the UN of committing unspeakable atrocities and itself facilitated the recruitment of child soldiers, is not the way to go about it.

There is no black and white in the world. And going about solving important problems like there is just serves to make all those equally troubling shades of gray invisible.

Aside from all that, I do think the marketing angle is of merit in of itself, with a few tweaks and more exemplary action.

Agreed, and it looks like its working too. Ive never seen such an issue -thats been around for so long - see it all of a sudden gone viral is proof that this type of social media marketing has some potential. Its a pretty polished, well done video.

It bothers me that people get so easily manipulated to act on something though, its a weird feeling. To see people react positively to a message that's real and serious in every way- but at the same time, really not all that factual or relevant. Its good to see a positive reaction, but when the solutions presented dont have a positive outcome its kind of disheartening. Its like watching someone heard sheep from one idea or concept to the next one, but none of them are truly waking up.

Kony, the next Osama bin laden?
So I'm not sure if there is a thread on this guy yet but I caught wind of him yesterday if I recall correctly. Here is an article from yahoo on him. There is a video in the link, or if you don't like yahoo you can go to YouTube and search "kony".

Supposedly he's a really bad dude who steals children from their parents and has them killing their parents, any resistors, mutilating other childrens face, etc.

Anyway, so on one hand I commend this surfer boy from Cali for trying to make a difference in the world and stop this guy because if it's true what he is doing, he should be captured and a gang of those crazy Italian mafia guys go to town on him with some power tools.

But I can't help but think that this guy is going to be used so that the pos federal government (who is just as bad as kony in their own way) can declare a war on crazy black man kony, just like they did on Osama bin laden.

So even though we have the power to send a seal team in to capture this kony wacko and be out and home before next week, I am placing a wager now that says we will be occupying Uganda for the next ten years. Commense the federal government and mainstream media saying how hard it is to find this guy in the Africa wilderness and how well protected he is, and how we must continue the hunt for him, blah blah blah.

Of course American idiots will allow the media to scare them and they will gladly give up plenty of their money to taxes that will supposedly be spent to capture this guy.

Bad Uganda dude is killing people left and right, surfer dude from Cali makes video and has brought awareness to millions of Americans, mainstream media and federal government capitalize on an opportunity to get rich from another decade of war as bad dude kony has now become the next Osama bin laden.
I just found this post on another forum:

"I've done a fair bit of looking into it, and everything doesn't add up. Heres my findings and I have included sources. Will probably get down voted to hell but I hope to give at least one of you a better understanding of whats going on. Theres ALWAYS two sides to every story. This viral film has caught the attention of heaps of young folk but you are all far too late. Watching that Kony video is essentially watching old news. They started filming in 2003, and northern Uganda has been free of LRA violence and war for over five years. In fact, the LRA have signed a peace accord! They are rebuilding and are restoring the peace.

Yes the leader is still out there however the recruitment of children has decreased 80%. This isn't due to the Invisible Children organisation, its because Ugandan military and the ICC have intercepted. The Invisible Children group are trying to pass a bill that allows America to militarise the region... They are providing misinformation to woo idealistic followers. The group have combined multiple regional conflicts to make it appear that this is one rapidly increasing issue. When confronted about their dodgy tactics, the head spokesperson stated;

“I agree with you that leading people to believe that the war is still happening in Uganda is not ethically right. It's something we've been addressing internally, focusing on getting all staff and supporters on the same page (of communication)."

If you read the news, or even had an ounce of interest in the on-going unrest in Africa you would already know this and not be fooled. Yes, awful things happen to people in 3rd world countries but this has been occurring for centuries, it isn't a recent occurrence.

I think its only fair if I am to make such comments I provide sources (unlike the people over at Invisible Children...)

Michael Kirkpatrick, a long-time Independent Global Citizen, he has resided in Uganda and other regions of Africa. He has no political, religious or financial agenda. He wrote this article and gave an in-depth insight to whats really going on. He also questioned important members of Invisible Children about their motives. [1]

Charity Navigator is a website that breaks down the proceeds and donations given to Invisible Children and subsequently shows what percentile of that is REALLY going towards these impoverished kids. A measly slither of what is going into the founders pockets. [2] website comes up but says page/article not found, link removed.

I've read an interesting passage from Northern Ugandan man however it is not 100% verified - he has advised the Northern Ugandan parliament have listed IC as their main priority on their "fraudulent activity" list. (See 2nd comment, username Livingstone). [3] same thing with this link, website came up but the article was no longer there, link removed. THIS article asking Invisible Children why they were pressuring poor AND illegal piece of legislation has since been removed and deleted. [4] again, website comes up, page not found.

ADDITIONALLY - There were members of Invisible Children were saying what their "allowance" could purchase them, it was on a forum on the official website, and this has also been REMOVED. [5]

Also: [6] - article also missing"

Just as I thought. Mainstream media blowing this up so that stupid Americans think that we need to go to Uganda to help the children.

Man, there are some really fucking sick people on this planet they way they like to use children as a means to promote war to enrich their lives.
Let's get crazy up in this bitch...

KONY and the invisible children scam
Recently, if you haven't noticed, there has been a rise in a trend that supports U.S. intervention in Uganda on behalf of the child soldiers whose ultimate goal is supposedly the arrest of rebel leader Joseph Kony. The movement was made popular by a 30 minute video put out on youtube by a couple of young and hip white guys. Immediately after viewing I was suspicious because of an auto biography I had read of a child soldier a few years back. The story of the child soldier was different from the ones spoke about in the youtube video in that he was recruited by the pro-government militia and not the rebels. So immediately after watching the video I did a little research and luckily the people at Black star news were able to shed some light on the whole thing. The following is the article exactly as it appears on their website. I will put the link at the bottom. Also the article appeared on prison planet a day later so I will put that link as well.

Invisible Children's goals initially may have been to publicize the plight of children caught in Uganda's decades-long conflicts; lately, IC has been acting as apologists for General Yoweri K. Museveni's dictatorship and the U.S. goal to impose AFRICOM (the U.S. Africa Military Command) on Africa.

IC has produced a brilliant film that's making the global rounds on Facebook

It's a classic as propaganda pieces come. The short but overwhelmingly powerful film uses all the best tear-jerk techniques. In the end, the film denounces Joseph Kony, the leader of the brutal Lord's Resistance Army, while giving the impression that Museveni's dictatorship and his brutal military, which was found liable for war crimes in Democratic Republic of Congo by the International Court of Justice, has nothing to do with the atrocities committed against children in Uganda. It also doesn't inform viewers that Museveni abducted thousands of child soldiers to win his insurgency in Uganda in 1986, launching the pattern of child soldier recruitment all over Africa.

In fact, Kony's insurgency against Museveni was launched later, meaning he too learned child soldier-abductions from Museveni.

Look at the way Invisible Children exploits American children in the beginning of their documentary; they then transplant the audience to Uganda, where again they take advantage of Ugandan children, who are the victims of both the LRA and the Ugandan government's army.

The imagery are powerful. Dr. Joseph Goebbels' and Leni Riefenstahl would have been proud of this cinematic coup by Invisible Children.

If Invisible Children was in fact a serious organization that has not been co-opted by the Museveni regime and the U.S. foreign policy agenda, the organization would inform the world that General Museveni, who has now stolen three elections in a row in Uganda is the first person who deserves to be arrested.

This Ugandan and East African nightmare gets a blank check from Washington simply because he has deployed Ugandan soldiers to Somalia at the behest of the United States. So democracy, human rights abuses, and genocide, become minor nuisances as far as U.S. foreign policy goes and as far as Invisible Children cares. This is beyond hypocrisy. Those members of Invisible Children who may have supported this misguided project to send more U.S. troops to Africa because they were unwittingly deceived, should do some serious soul searching.

Museveni does not care for the plight of children in Uganda's Acholi region. How else would he have herded 2 million Acholis in concentration camps for 20 years where, according to the United Nations' World Health Organization (WHO), more than 1,000 children, women and men died of planned neglect--lack of medical facilities; lack of adequate food; dehydration, and; lack of sanitation and toilet facilities. Does this sound like a person who cares about children?

His colleagues have denounced Acholis as "backwards" and as "biological substances." General Museveni himself revealed an interesting pathology, as a first class racist African when he told Atlantic Monthly Magazine, in September 1994: “I have never blamed the whites for colonizing Africa: I have never blamed these whites for taking slaves. If you are stupid, you should be taken a slave.” Ironically --or perhaps not-- the general was even more embraced by Washington after those remarks. Gen. Museveni has been a U.S. ally since the days of Ronald Reagan.

So why does Invisible Children only go after Kony while leaving Museveni alone when in fact they are two sides of the same coin?

These young folks who run Invisible Children are extremely dangerous to the welfare of Ugandans and other Africans should they succeed in broadening U.S. military presence in Africa. If the United States were truly interested purely in eliminating Kony why deploy now when Kony abandoned Uganda in 2006 when he was negotiating a peace deal that ultimately collapsed, with Museveni.

While Kony and his fighters were camped at Garamba in Congo, as agreed upon during peace negotiations, who was it that launched a military attack with planes and helicopters in December 2008? It was Gen. Museveni, with U.S. assistance. The peace negotiations, which had been embraced by traditional and religious leaders in Acholi region, collapsed. According to Jan Egeland, the former U.N Under-Secretary General for humanitarian affairs, Museveni also wanted to pursue a military approach and even ridiculed his own attempts to negotiate peace.

Immediately more killings ensued --this time in Congo; and since Museveni and Kony are two sides of the same coin, it's unclear who committed the atrocities in Garamba after the abortive attack.

After the attacks the LRA scattered into the Central African Republic. One would imagine that if the U.S. and Invisible Children were really interested in Kony, the deployment would have been to Central African Republic.

The young folks behind Invisible Children don't understand the conflict in Uganda; yet they have made themselves the spokespersons. They have campaigned and convinced some celebrities, including Rihana and P. Diddy, to tweet their half-truth propaganda film. This is a way to have one-sided or impartial information become the "dominant truth" globally, and drown out critical analyses.

It's like a group of impressionable White youngsters coming to Harlem and saying: we see you have major crises, let us tell you what's the solution. Who would accept such misguided and destructive arrogance? If it's unacceptable in Harlem, it must also be rejected in Uganda's Acholi region.

Acholi traditional leaders, religious leaders, and members of Parliament in Uganda, have all opposed further militarization. But they are not in a position to express their views on CNN or in The New York Times, or to make a slick documentary, such as Invisible Children's. What's more, they're not accorded the presumptive credibility that are often bestowed to White analysts when compared to native Ugandans.

Yet, rather than listen to the cries of Uganda's traditional and religious leaders who live in the war-devastated regions, Invisible Children has decided to produce a beautiful documentary with an ugly agenda that only escalates conflict and endorses Gen. Museveni. Who really believes it's a good thing for the United States to be sending troops to Uganda or anywhere in Africa? Why would these troops act any differently than those sent to Iraq and Afghanistan?

The U.S. government and Invisible Children are using the brutal Joseph Kony as a bogeyman to justify the U.S. long-term plan, which is to impose AFRICOM on Africa. Since everyone knows about Kony's atrocities, who would object if the U.S. sends 100 U.S. "advisers" to help Uganda, after all? Brilliantly devious. Of course it never stops at 100 "advisers." That was the announced deployment; there are probably more U.S. troops in the region. Even before the deployment some had already been training Museveni's soldiers. And more will come; unannounced.

AFRICOM, the ultimate objective, would allow the U.S. to be able to counter resource-hungry China by having boots on the ground near the oil-rich northern part of Uganda, South Sudan, Congo's region bordering Lake Albert, and the Central African Republic. The troops would also be near by in case a decision is made to support regime-change in Khartoum, Sudan. After all, the U.S. foreign policy reasoning is that since Sudan's president Omar Hassan al-Bashir and his defense minister have both been indicted by the International Criminal Court (ICC), few would shed tears for them.

The U.S. is aware that African countries oppose AFRICOM. So what does the U.S. do? Go after a "devil" and in this case it's Kony. Tell the world --with the help of Invisible Children--that our mission is to help rid Uganda of this "devil"; who by the way is hiding somewhere in Central African Republic, while the dictator who most recently stole elections last February, sits in Kampala and meets with U.S. officials and leaders of Invisible Children.

If the real target was simply Joseph Kony, the U.S. would have used an armed predator drone; this is how the U.S. has eliminated several suspected leaders of Al-qaeda and the Taleban, after all.

It doesn't seem that Invisible Children is an independent do-good save-the-children outfit. They are paving the way --with Kony, brutal as he is, as the bogeyman-- for AFRICOM.

Kony is a nightmare, but Museveni has caused the deaths of millions of people in Rwanda, Uganda and Congo. In 2005 the International Court of Justice found Uganda liable for what amounts to war crimes in Congo: mass rapes of both women and men; disemboweling pregnant women; burning people inside their homes alive; massacres and; plunder of resources. Congo lost six million people after Uganda's occupation of parts of Congo. The Court awarded Congo $10 billion in reparations; not a dime has been paid.

Congo then referred the same crimes to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Hague for war crimes charges. On June 8, 2006, The Wall Street Journal reported that Gen. Museveni personally contacted Kofi Annan, then UN Secretary General and asked him to block the criminal investigation.

It seems that the U.S. and ICC Prosecutor Moreno Ocampo might have indeed obliged. Gen. Museveni and senior Ugandan military commanders remain un-indicted for the alleged crimes that the ICJ already found Uganda liable; only one side of the same coin, Kony was indicted. Prosecutor Ocampo is also totally discredited; readers should Google "Ocampo and South African journalist case."

There is another documentary that tries to explain the Ugandan tragedy, in a more sober manner, unlike Invisible Children's slick propaganda piece.

Hopefully this commentary will motivate people to do their research and demand that the international community deal with both Kony and Museveni.

Hopefully more people will also do their own research and not be vulnerable to slick propaganda such as Invisible Children's.

For example, readers can Google terms such as "Yoweri Museveni and Congo genocide," "Museveni and Kony," "Museveni and and Rwanda genocide," "Museveni and Acholi genocide," and "U.S. support for dictator Museveni."

Thanks to the moderator or whoever is responsible for moving this. I just had my computer fixed so I still haven't had the chance to get the hang of the site yet. The oil idea has some merit... but I ask like i did with the singer dying WH... What is this distracting us from?

COuld it be as simple as a scam organization making it's move b4 it's too late or is it to keep the news filled with this story and the sheeps reactions to it!

Two articles Sure one of you web savvy guys will follow with links (please & thank you) in past few days have been slipped in then quickly swept under this story, one was an asteroid which scientists say won't hit earth just come between us and out satellites... even the news guy is skeptical and says "they say" no need to panic but best to have your affair in order anyways... can't get more coded then that totally made me turn my head and pay attention...

The second which has gotten a bit more press but not near enough it deserves is the solar flaring which is disrupting plenty of satellites, including gps and sat cell phone services.

I have mentioned that this part of 2012 would be the sun's most violent time and now we are coming to see it pass, will it get worse...? Is the kony thing just a distraction to keep people from realizing whats happening in the bigger picture like with the Primaries and celeb deaths.

Be watchful folks, Much is about to change... never underestimate the power of a distracted populace to doom itself.

I fucking knew it. I was flipping channels yesterday at a friends house and came across CNN and some stupid media bitch was talking about this kony issue with another media dipshit. She was asking, how do we know which warlord to take down. Paraphrasing but it was along those lines.

So now the mainstream media is trying to sell that we must go into Uganda and take this guy down. Watch, US military will go there and be there for the next ten years trying to catch this elusive "terrorist". Meanwhile, US taxpayers will be funding another war which is nothing more than a farce in order to steal yet another nations resources and make "defense" contractors, aka death merchants, rich
