Thanks for the wishes I'll fill y'all in on the morrow as to how it went .. like last year but it seems to be quite a structured day with obligated attendance to traditional cake so don't expect anything that resembles anything like an epic urban wayfarer tale.

The real party is every day which is always an experience, an adventure and another opportunity to turn it all around, or at least slightly off the "mandated" course; especially when you take into account that a large part of reality is perception.

Back to cake and silly hats (ok well work and hanging with my Gramps!)

RE: Happy Birthday FastTadpole !!
Thanks for all the Birthday wishes (+ the wicked awesome drawing April) that feed the self importance aspect of ego.

I celebrated with my Brother, My Gramps, My Sons, Ma and Pa, My Dog Faced Nephew Charlie and my beloved fish Charlie.

Pretty low key as everyone was tired in this world of busy -- a world that taxes the body and mind laboriously. A life that chews you up, a vampiric system that uses you sometimes just for the sake of doing so.

I don't feel any older but I guess that creeps up on you life cumulatively takes it's toll.

Let me break it down..

My brother cleans up chemical spills he's suffered back injuries, is forced to work with incompetence because of a manpower shortage and government kickbacks the company gets cheap subsidized labour from the Philippines, Mexico and Kenya. Because of workplace accidents my brother has had breathing issues and his back is taking a severe beating. Health issues that will likely fully manifest when he is older. But hey it pays well.. right?!

My Dad worked tirelessly as a meat cutter for more than 35 years and took the physical toll (hands, back..) that came with it until he was t-boned by a drunk driver five years ago and is in daily anguish from nerve damage to his neck. He's lucky to be alive. Insurance is a bit of a pittance and "free" Canadian health care sure costs a ton of money. Hopefully a settlement will make life easier for him during his well deserved retirement.

My dear Mother was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis more than 20 years ago. She's a fighter and really gave here all and more to everything she did. She was forced to take a job as a bookkeeper to pay the bills after my brother and I were in school. She fought municipal (wanton development, management at schools), provincial (public "servant" recall) and federal policy (Free Trade) to no avail but she did give it a good shot. She's been a truly supportive person throughout her entire life to this day even with her condition, which will likely eventually lead to her demise.

My Grandfather is a World War II veteran. A war ruled by puppet masters playing both sides to shape the world. Since "The War to End All Wars" there have been at least 63. As a result he lost every friend in his crew during the battle of Dieppe where they were picked off on the beach by shooters from the high cliffs. He also lost a good deal of his hearing. Being deaf now he's isolated from conversation but he's getting fitted for a new hearing aid (not covered by veteran's affairs) for $8,000. After the war he was employed as a type setter for The Edmonton Journal (Southam News) for the rest of his working life. Gramps lost a finger and a lot of time with his young family with the endless hours working for the propaganda machine. But hey it paid well.. right?! He's 91 now and was driving until last year.

All of them are exceptional people in their own way and any post could never do them justice.

It is my greatest hope (My Birthday Wish) that my sons can navigate through life with their heads held high, recognize when they are being used, use their own mind, listen to their souls and speak up in the face of injustice.
There are no others, there is only us.
