Former bank worker who helped to bring chaos to streets of London Charlie Veitch
Quote:A demonstrator who joined anarchists causing chaos in the capital is a privately educated former finance worker whose girlfriend was a reality TV star.

Charlie Veitch, 30, is the founder of a group called The Love Police Academy and attended Saturday's protest with 500 followers. He was among the activists who occupied Fortnum & Mason and told how he joined rioters who stormed McDonald's in Leicester Square and Boots in Piccadilly Circus.

His girlfriend, also an activist, is Cambridge student Silkie Carlo, 18, who has appeared on Channel 4 reality show Shipwrecked.

Mr Veitch was educated at The Edinburgh Academy and is the son of a wealthy oil worker. He claims to have been employed for HBOS in wealth management after attending Edinburgh University. He has also said he served in the Army. He says he was made redundant during the financial crisis and then decided to become a full-time protester and film-maker.

Mr Veitch has been involved in high-profile protests across the country. He was one of those who occupied Millbank Tower during the student fees demonstration in December. Before Saturday, he posted a video on his website calling for "chaos" in London, adding: "The main aim ... is for the Metropolitan police to lose control of the city.

"This can be done through very peaceful, non-violent means. If you are feeling very brave and you feel that you might liberate a police radio off their chests in the middle of some sort of face-off, do that. Remember this is life and death. I am a firm believer in bringing about chaos."

There is no suggestion Mr Veitch is directly linked to the "Black Bloc" anarchists who rampaged through London. But Mr Veitch wrote an article after the protest praising their actions.

He wrote: "The Love Police Academy, my personal feudal army, had been planning the day for a while. At 13:00 we stormed the Leicester Square McDonald's and attempted to liberate the burger-flippers. Half an hour later we forced the flagship Boots store in Piccadilly Circus to close.

"The Metropolitan police completely lost control of the area as Fortnum & Mason was stormed and trashed and officers pulled Section 60 (weapons search) forms from their bags to deal with us. Shortly afterwards, I found myself staring at the front of the Ritz Hotel and howling with laughter. People kept throwing bricks through its windows and smashing the doors in with hammers."

Mr Veitch lives in Cambridge with Miss Carlo, who was also at the protest. She studies politics, psychology and sociology and was on Shipwrecked in 2009. Mr Veitch told the Standard: "I was not involved with the violence.

"We were inside Fortnum & Mason but we took no part in the violence. I see any action which makes a statement and doesn't hurt anyone as political art."

So TriWooOx .. you see it up close and personal .. is this more of just the philosophical differences that come to fruition like his divergence (which was done quite admirably with Danny Shine after Everything is OK and Danny went Zen and Charlie went more towards action/protest as I've seen it play out.

These are almost the exact reason Danny Shine went his own way.

I saw the kettle incident with UK UNCUT. That was a piss off, the bobbies may be trying to validate their existence of police state by trying to incite a riot in a part of the Revolution Trap - in which he got a small clip in.

Are they implying that Silkie Carlo is another Yoko Ono?

Any leader /icon should be done away with and Mr. Veitch has always said he doesn't want to be that leader but he has long acted as one. But that is more a symptom of followers. He did step down and I found that admirable but then he was right back.

Yes he was a former financial sector worker, but reportedly he couldn't live with himself so he quit.

He's defended Alex Jones but more from a peacemaker standpoint

It's a case of playing the Zeitgeist role against the Street Protest role. I'm for neither really just an organized succession from the state, demands get no one nowhere, meditation needs transcribed to productive thought and then balanced with intelligent action. I haven't really seen any of this angle from The Love Police which appears to be a hybrid of the two sides of the inaction movement, with a few exceptions or maybe it's merely a stage one in a larger process that hasn't been communicated yet. We do need the police on our side when shit does go down so The Love Police does have a vital role if they could push for that moreso and get back to its roots instead of calling for more of the social breadcrumbs like UK Uncut's primary calling is for. We Are Change is similar but more geared towards the protest route with different demands from the state. Lightworkers basically get nothing done in their violet bubble.

gimme gimme never get.

Plant a garden. Start an education program or home based school network. Build rather than destroy.

Bring science back to the citizens by offering an alternative to the intellectuals besides money that we the people can offer. Build homes rather than buy homes. Create a trucker distribution network to compete with the corporate monopoly. Support your local farmer. Throw away your iGadgets. Kill your television. Same goes for military and security (The Love Police could do more to entice police to come over to serve the people - the real people in its position) and truly make a peoples movement with fundamental aspects of survival, sustenance, means of production, full access to land and resources and keep the wheels of progress intact with more room for individual expression is more where I'm coming from.

Secede the state/bank/corporate monopolies and cartels on competition for these goods and services. We can do better as small groups, large groups or individuals whatever suits the local consensus, demographics and local resource pool. Just get things done.

My hope is these movements come together to realize that is the route for the effective, more permanent change they have been begging and wishing for.

Whether any or all of it is true or it's all bull is irrelevant it only serves to further divide a fractured movement. We need to get these groups to sit down at the table united and find common goals. We need to organize, not protests and movie watching sessions, petitions and letter writing campaigns but to respectfully organize a new way of sustaining and progressing the human cause and allowing for those differences to shine through.

Not sure how much these videos add directly to the thread but it balances it out a bit.

Charlie Veitch / March 26th / Love Police Videos (now merged)

.. I said everything I felt needed to at this time in my post upthread.
