Griff The Invisible (2010)

Brilliant, insightful and hilarious Aussie comedy.

RE: What is the best movie u have seen lately?
I recently downloaded and watched Hackers, that one from 1995 with the geeks who lead a digital army to battle a couple of money-hungry corporates that alphabet suits didn't have the technological or intellectual means to thwart. I had originally seen it when it came to the theatres and loved it, being a proud geek myself.

It features Angelina Jolie (okay, not a big selling point these days) as one of the protagonists, and Fisher Stevens (who played the Indian guy in the Short Circuit movies) as the main antagonist. Okay, perhaps Fisher Stevens should have been first in this list of kinda-stars, but I digress.

Aside from those of us who were heavily into coding, computer (ASCII) art, phreaking and/or what-not, most people I've talked to complained that the user interfaces and graphics were completely unrealistic. They seemed to pass over the notion that, as Dunamis noted in an earlier response, youth, as chaotic and anarchistic as they are, can band together and have a positive impact on society. In fact, most youths I know are pretty decent people.

Watching Hackers a couple of days ago brought me back to the golden days of hacking CPUs with Turbo Pascal.

RE: What is the best movie u have seen lately?
Well now I have a bunch of new movies to watch. Thanks y'all!

Made an IMDB list of this thread for easy browsing.
http://www.imdb.com/rg/s/1/list/zbRznPEXb24/

I've seen a few good ones lately.

Nine Miles Down (2009)

Ichi the Killer (2001)

Last Life in the Universe (2003)

Inception (2010)

Valhalla Rising (2009)

Equilibrium (2002)

Outlander (2008)

Flipped (2010)

The Mechanic (2011)

Kaiji: The Ultimate Gambler (2009)

Bullet in the Head (1990)

Karacter (1997)

Vagabond (1985)

Looks there are already two sequels planned for Tomorrow, When the War Began slated for release in 2012 and 2013.

Disappointed with Agora, Wall Street 2, The Informant, The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus and I really thought MacGruber would be better.
There are no others, there is only us.

I wish you guys would understand French cause I'd have a few ones that I would recommend. One that comes to mind is: Le Moustachu.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093575/ IMHO it misses a few stars over at imdb.
I LMFAO on this one.

RE: What is the best movie u have seen lately?
I saw (Battle in Seattle)* a few days ago.. It's a really good film.. As a result, I downloaded a highly cited documentary called "A Force More Powerful" on the same subject (non-violent struggle) which I am yet to see soon.

Also, (Revelation of the Pyramids) was surprisingly shocking. I had to watch it again to comprehend all the info & ponder if it was coincidental somehow. Imo it can't be. Another explanation would be more adequate.

(When the Moors Ruled Europe) was also really great, even though it speaks from a non-islamic point of view which I found (as a muslim) to be unbiased to a great extent.

* EDIT: A recent occurrence in the Egyptian revolution is called (Battle of the Camel). Tens of men on camels and horses attacked protesters in Cairo. If they made a movie it would be really cool. Sad but funny. LOL

the mechanic listed as 2011 by tad... is a remake of a bronson movie by the same name, will have to watch this new adaptation to see if it stands up... good movie in it's original state though if you can find it online.

I read Angels & Demons after it first came out, and still have not bothered to read the book, though I did bear the film. Yes, Hanks is a great actor, but Dan Brown has simply confused a lot of people by mixing legend and myth with fact and then adding totally made up things as well. And I am not just talking about the usual film dialogue created for dramatisation, but rather the major conclusions drawn that form the spine of the storyline.

A pity really. I would say that purely for entertainment purposes the 'Angels and Demons' film imo is far superior.

I've seen it several times throughout the years
just a very well made movie.

Have you ever seen a good print in a good theatre? During the final shoot-out / massacre, if there are any women in the audience who have not seen this film before, expect screaming and absolute, complete shocked horror as in "Oh my Gaaaawwwd ! This is so bad, this is so bad, I can't look . . ." They never expect that kind of explosion of pent-up rage, they think they're going to see some Rambo bullshit and get blindsided by meticulous artifice. No cartoon mega-violence to desensitize there but the realistic, ugly, crazy lunatic kind that hurts and haunts and sensitizes forever. One film like that is worth a hundred Hollywood blockbusters and John Woo Hong-Kong shoot-em-ups combined. Sad sight to see how far Scorsese has fallen off since "Goodfellas." He's practically a hack now.

All "Taxi Driver" fans should check out Paul Schrader's "Hardcore" about a religious nut looking for his daughter who's run away to Los Angeles to become a porn actress. It's pretty twisted and dark to say the least but not as twisted and dark as "Taxi Driver."

Last week I very much enjoyed the experience of watching this 1964 'screwball comedy' on dvd:

[Image: good-neighbor-sam-movie-poster-1964-1020254376.jpg]

Quote:In this urbane comedy of errors, Jack Lemmon (in a BAFTA-nominated performance) stars as happily married ad man Sam Bissel, who must pose as the husband of his wife's sexy friend in order to land a lucrative account with a prudish bigwig (Edward G. Robinson). Dorothy Provine and Romy Schneider co-star in this kooky double entendre-laden romp from director David Swift.

Watching these old movies set in suburbia is almost science fiction now it seems so far off from today's world.

Some of Jack Lemmon's most subtle comedic acting in this one, just watch his facial movements and how he reacts to things. He was one of the greatest American actors ever.

Mike "Mannix" Connors as Romy Schneider's ex-husband also puts in a great supporting performance. He has some hilarious scenes with Lemmon.

There's a good satire of American business and marketing thrown in.

Some of the scenes get corny and go on for way too long but overall it's a cute little charmer.

From the subliminal programming angle it's actually a very tame 'wife-swapping' movie that a few years later escalated into "Bob & Carol, Ted & Alice" in the late 60s.
