What is an Intentional Community? - http://utahsafehaven.ning.com/group/membershipcriteria/forum/topics/what-is-an-intentional

About Safe Haven Village: Creating a sustainable, off-grid, safe community:
. . . We are currently an on-line virtual community who are collaborating on and creating an intentional community somewhere in Central Utah. We are now in the process of making offers and negotiating different sites. When we have secured the land, we will be building a community center and Full members will be able to start building homes. Until then, feel free to start the application process, give suggestions, discuss, add photos or videos, etc.

There's a few similar ideas now being put into practice over here in the UK. A friend of mine has also now been living without a bank account or any sort of "credit" for just over 12 years now! And he has been working for the same small independent show-makers for almost 25 years, so they've obviously helped him out a lot. He then manages to set up PA systems for people and also performs at his own gigs! So it is still possible.

Networking seems to be one of the best routes to achieving success in this area, building up a network of like minded fellow 'freemen'.

"Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly... This is the interrelated structure of reality." -- Martin Luther King Jr.
"He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him." -- Proverbs 18:13
"Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself." -- Leo Tolstoy
"To love is to be vulnerable" -- C.S Lewis

The Intentional Community movement is on the rise:

Intentional Community: http://www.ic.org/pnp/cdir/1995/05quest.php
Who We Are: An Exploration of What "Intentional Community" Means
. . . Dan Questenberry has compiled responses from communitarians everywhere on the nature and description of intentional community. By describing ourselves, we clarify our group objectives -- at home and as a movement. Twenty-six communitarians express visions, observations, distinctions, confusions, longings. Some descriptions were fashioned out of long debate. Most of them were submitted along with the Community Listings published in the Directory.

I'm particularly interested in the Eco Villages. IC Directory of them all around the world: http://directory.ic.org/records/ecovillages.php
. . . Ecovillages (or eco-villages) are communities with a strong ecological focus. An ecovillage might be urban, suburban, or rural and they can range in size from a few to hundreds. Some eco villages are attempts to shift existing neighborhoods or towns toward more sustainable living and more of a sense of community. Others are newly built, often featuring green or natural building techniques. Ecovillages vary a lot in their degree of community connection and their ecological focus. I can recommend the "$50 and up underground home" as stimulating information. Beware of flying drones and satelites.
