Dead Yellowtail, Seals and Stingrays Littered a 30-km Stretch of Northland Beaches in New Zealand.

Hundreds of thousands of yellowtail as well as many seals and stingrays were washed up along Glinks Gully and Baylys Beach last weekend, eyewitnesses said.

The most probable cause could be dumping of toxic chemicals at the sea, the blog Moderators believe.

“There were thousands, at least 30 kilometres up. It’s not on, there’s no other excuse. The smell was horrific.” An eyewitness said.

“It’s too much of a coincidence, really strange. Seals and stingrays are not generally known for throwing themselves on the beach.” Marine expert Dr Kendall Clements said.

“Possibilities are an accident like a net tearing open, a natural event such as algal poisoning or deliberate dumping at sea.” Darren Edwards, field operations manager for the Ministry of Fisheries Northland said.
Apology for the small photo.

Kind Regards.

h/t h3rm35 for the find awhile back - and for the record unrelated to the siggy - although it does have a point about the organism, the One, the herd, the borg and the hive. Not all good nor bad just the law of nature but I prefer to keep it a voluntary migratory path.

8,000 turtle doves fall dead in Italy with strange blue stain on their beaks

Thousands of dead turtle doves rained down on roofs and cars in an Italian town in the latest in a growing spate of mass animal deaths across the globe.

Residents in Faenza described the birds falling to the ground like 'little Christmas balls' with strange blue stains on their beaks.

Initial tests on up to 8,000 of the doves indicated that the blue stain could have been caused by poisoning or hypoxia.

[Image: article-1344913-0CAD3141000005DC-838_634x376.jpg]

A witness told http://www.examiner.com: 'We have no idea why this happened all of a sudden.

'The doves just started falling one-by-one then in groups of 10s and 20s.'

Hypoxia, a lack of oxygen, is known to cause confusion and illness in animals. It is also a common precursor to altitude sickness.

Experts said results from tests on the doves will not be available for at least a week.

They said that cold weather could have caused the birds' deaths as the flock was swept into a high-altitude wind storm before falling to the earth.

Slightly off topic, but maybe not.

An article on GM Enviropigs!

LONDON: In a world's first, scientists claim to have created a new generation of genetically modified pigs which they say are greener and fit for human consumption.

According to its creators, the Enviropigs look, sound and taste like normal pigs, but are designed to be greener — each contains genes from mice and Ecoli bacteria which have been inserted into their DNA with absolute precision. Those genes make a small but important difference to the way these pigs process their food and so, their manure contains less phosphorus than normal slurry and poses less risk to rivers, streams and lakes, say the scientists.

Unlike normal pigs, Enviropigs have been designed to produce their own phytase, say the creators. In tests, the Enviropigs were able to absorb more phosphorous from its feed. Their wastes contained less of the potentially toxic substance and their meat also appears to be identical to cuts from a traditional Yorkshire pig. Rich Moccia of the University of Guelph in Canada, who led a team, is proud of what has been achieved. "It's the forefront of discovery in the scientific community. It's one of only two animals right now using this kind of technology. It really is mind-boggling when you think of it," the lead scientist told the BBC.

But critics of GM food said the animals are "anything but environmentally friendly" and could lead to more intensive pig farms. Anti-GM campaigner Lucy Sharratt said the very notion of transgenic animals is a nightmare. "This is an absolutely critical time when North America is at the very centre of the global conflict over genetically engineered animals - to break open a whole new area of application of this technology, which we had never imagined would be possible."

200 dead cows in Wisconsin and 7000 dead buffalo in Vietnam - what is happening?

Quote:200 dead cows in Wisconsin have been reported over the weekend and a report of 7000 dead buffalo and cows from Vietnam is also making news today. These two reports are adding mystery to the dead bird and dead fish reports since January 1st 2011.

The dead cows in Wisconsin were discovered by a farmer, who believes his cattle may have died from some type of a virus, according to the New York Daily News.

Fox News reports this morning that the dead cows in Wisconsin are being tested for the exact cause of death. Fox News also said authorities are reporting that the cows death poses no harm to humans.

Other livestock dying along with the dead Buffalo events are being reported out of Vietnam over the weekend. Officials in Vietnam are attributing the deaths to the freezing winter the country is experiencing. The dead buffalo and cows have been dying all over Vietnam with 7000 the total number of all the deaths from all the providences. Vietnam is seeing mass deaths of 700 deaths in one day due to the cold. The livestock is being frozen, according to Tuoitre News.

The dead buffalo and cows in Vietnam are dying from the unusually cold temperatures, according to the Tuoitre News. This is a solid and valid reason for these animals to be dying, sad, but there is a reason for the deaths.

The cows in Wisconsin however, are possibly dying from a virus? According to the New York Post, officials are saying there is no risk to people or other animals, although they do not know what killed the cows. No other information is given as to what type of cattle are dead. Are they dairy cows, or cows that are used for their beef?

Unanswered questions are coming out of the cows in Wisconsin dying, the first concerns will most likely be - what does this mean for people? Not knowing what the cattle are used for or if they are in the food chain at all is concerning?

Connecticut has had reports of cattle pleuro pneumonia dating back to 1879. Deaths in cattle from this sickness do occur, according to an Article in the New York Times in 1879. In this New York Times article, it talked about an out break of pneumonia in cows in Connecticut. This did not harm people, the cattle that were sick were quarantined from the other cattle only, so they would not catch it from one another.

This century old article about Connecticut cows, just goes to show that cattle viruses are nothing new. I is just that the reports from Wisconsin are coming on the heels of the many dead birds and dead fish reports in the last few weeks. This is most likely why it is national news today. Anytime cows die it is of concern, made evident by the Connecticut cow pneumonia article, this is because cows are used for their beef and dairy products.

Thousands of dead octopuses wash up on Portugal beach

Quote:Thousands of dead octopuses have washed up on a beach in northern Portugal, in what is being called an environmental disaster.

They cover a 5-mile stretch of Vila Nova de Gaia beach - no reason has yet been found for their appearance.

The authorities have warned the public not to eat them.

Quote:Aflockalypse: What It’s Really Trying to Tell Us and What is the Media Trying to Sell Us?

When 5,000 red-wing black birds dropped from the Arkansas sky earlier this month, the media sat up and took notice. Other mass die-offs (fish, crabs, buffaloin the animal kingdom were trumpeted by the media. What we do know is that animal deaths happen regularly. An average of 167 mass events are reported to the Geological Survey every year. Billions of birds die every year.

Local news reports more than one species of blackbird and a single dove in their dramatic story further ruling out the disease angle based on the "fact" it was limited to one species.

It's over-hyped fear and to drum up empathy for the push for green hell IMO. Not that industry, telecom, energy, farming, construction, transport, mining and the military don't piss all over the environment unnecessarily.

With a bit of experience as a novice birdwatcher the redwing blackbird migrates to the North, including to Alberta, in the spring - flying south in October. They hang in shoreline shrubs, cattail marshes, wet meadows and croplands. The males pre-empt the females migratory arrival or settling by a few weeks. In the photos to stake out the marshland awaiting the female's arrival.

There is a distinct difference in appearance between the genders ..

I haven't seen any females in the photos, but I've only seen smattering of different ones to date circulated in the media.

I looked into the phosgene angle (based on the Russian Intelligence reports) on this as well here:
