Bit Torrent, Data Preservation, and Wikileaks/Iraq Diaries
There's been a lot of discussion about the wikileaks release, and there are some good threads on this forum claiming or denying their validity. Some suggest the military is releasing this on purpose, and this may refute its truthfulness.

Whether the data is correct or not, and whatever caused its release, and whoever is against the release, it stands to reason that this and many other collections of data found on concen's trackers should be downloaded and preserved by private citizens such as you or I.

I hope that those who want to discuss the issues outlined above will go to the appropriate thread and not hijack this one. I want to talk about collecting and preserving this type of information, with this one item as an example.

That being said, how large is the repository of these so called Iraq War Diaries? Where is this data stored? Does anyone have a link or torrent so that I can download it?

On other notes, what methods do the readers of this forum and tracker use to store the downloads the acquire from it?

That's easy. Data DVD-Roms. I use Sony AccuCORE 4.7GB which have been GREAT so far. They are 1x-16x as well, so I get things written pretty fast. Between my disks and Nero's data verification within the writting mode (from Nero 7 Essentials, got it free) I have a good archive built up.

It's just indexing them that becomes hard, and I've never done that for my Audi and Pdf files....ahhhhh!

Free (and old), minimalist.

CatFish allows you to...
■Save snapshots of all your disks and removable media (ZIP disks, CDROMs).
■Quickly find files in all catalogs by name (with wildcards), size, and/or date.
■See all total file and subdirectory counts as well as total space usage.
■Easily view with any sort order. Export saved catalogs as text files.
■Save any number of snapshots, for entire (network) drives or specific areas.

One of many.

Thanks you VERY much, that seems a handy tool indeed. And although since my last post (now on Windows 7) I have switched to using ImgBurn for burning, archiving is still what takes time. And I have started on my Audio and PDF files, about half way through sorting them into folders with as much info etc in nfo files. But archiving them will take the time, and such tools are going to be very handy, so once again, cheers.
