Yep, well as an Aussie, I can certainly confirm it's good money on the oilrigs here.. around $500 a day sounds spot on.. I know someone who works on one..

Just about everything here's owned by foreigners these days so don't be surprised about that one..

And as to Aussie-speak, no worries Bruce, you'll soon pick it up :-) :-) :-)

Hey! It's almost like English, probably more so than American, even these days!

might be just what you need Mike.

if you're in Oz, Nimbin is a great place for a recreational break (and you can kill a hippie while you're there:D):

I don't know about oil rigs, one thing I do know is that they pay good money for driving trucks, etc in Western Australia, but the problem is that since their economy boomed the price of accommodation has sky rocketed, if you can find anywhere to stay it will cost a fortune and mean that the work is far less profitable.

As for a trucking license, I'm not sure but we do drive on the other side of the road here, I heard someone say that you need an international drivers license to drive in some countries overseas so the same might apply here.

Howard has been out of government for a long time BTW and I don't know where you got your information about our "draconian country" from but if it's infowars or whatever then just forget about it, alex jones and those other nutjobs talk out their ass, last I heard he was making our booze busses out to be military style checkpoints.

I'll admit last night i was slightly bummed about this..... yet it's vanished and been replaced with enthusiasm.

WHAT AN ADVENTURE!!!

With the working experience you've had Mike, I'd gather that being away from home wouldn't be a big deal for you. It would be a constant learning experience. I think you would adapt quickly and enjoy the new challenges! Think of the perspective you would gain!

If I was single.... I'd do it.......... or something like it. lol.

sounds like a bit of a process to get the ball rolling though..... keep us filled in Mike. If you clear all the hoops, well have to throw you a ConCen bon voyage celebration! :D

Tbh, it sounds great - with that sort of cash coming your way, Mike, you could take sojourns on some remote island the South Pacific -the water is crystal clear - totally out of the NWO loop, so to speak.. not that Oz is so schelcht either..honestly, it's paradisical out in the South Pacific - if you get the offer, you should probably go for it imsho. It's not like there's no internet out there lol:)

Noooo... don't kill a Hippy... how will you get stoned if you kill all the hippies..

Just go sparingly on the Mullumbimbee-Madness.. But hey, none too many oilrigs in that area, so y'd have to take yer chances on finding your way home I guess :-)

Bottoms Up

David

:-)

P.S.. Just one more thing.. I missed some posts again.. The resources boom is kind of over here in Western Australia, at least for the time being.. Something about a global recession, and places like China wanting less iron, gas, copper etc than they recently did. Yep, we drive on the left over here, which is the right side of course - unless of course you come from one of those 'other' countries which drive on the right (wrong) side of the road, and in which case you'd probably think that right is right, but not here of course. There's still work here for truck drivers though, although the money's nowhere near as good as on an oilrig. Good luck, and if you need a place to hang your hat in W.A. you can bunk here for a short time if you wish :-)

LOL our skilled migration program that is still in effect in WA entitles you to come over with a truck licence and start driving almost straight away. Great money in that over here if you dont mind long distance haul, but for local semi deliveries there is still good money.
As i am also in the transport industry i feel as if it is one of the safest jobs in a recession as you always need to move goods, and it is still booming over here in WA, despite a few mining closures and other hyped business collapses, but yeah plenty of semi work over here, and Perth itself is hardly in a police state if ya worried about that.

We just dont have the resources for anything like that yet.

And Ctrl, i dont post here much, but if you work on rigs or long haul trucking over here, you can afford almost any accommodation because it is some serious good money. I have mates working the rigs and mines and friends in transport all earning the good money over here, it still is an earners paradise here if you willing to earn it.
One mate of mine earns up to four grand Aus a month drilling samples for some company specialising in just that. Prospecting potential mining sites.

Just clarifying some misconceptions here of the WA work environment.
