A really tempting job offer... in Oz.

I just checked my mail and there was a letter from a local energy company that expressed interest in
my CV that I'd submitted to them. Their letter states they have an interest in offering me a 1 to 3 year contract
to go work in the Aussie oil field. They even went as far as sending me a Aussie police background check form
to send to the coppers there, whic h after being filled out I'm supposed to send back to this company. If the coppers
green light me, an interview will be arranged.

This is really tempting and exciting to think about. I wonder if I should go for it? I wonder how much the money will be?

As long as you can get past NSM with his pitchfork at the dock, sounds like you might be onto a winner. GL

Thats AWESOME! Go for it MAN!!
In the 60's, people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird and people take Prozac to make it normal.

As a reputed atheist, the reverential nature of his film was surprising, but Pasolini himself said &If you know that I am an unbeliever, then you know me better than I do myself. I may be an unbeliever, but I am an unbeliever who has a nostalgia for a belief.&

I think I'll apply. I know a couple of people who've gone and worked oilfield abroad and the money they got was fantastic.
CC member yodin once told me that when he was sent to work for Luk Oil in Russia he was paid over $500 a day.
That's some pretty serious cash. Cross my fingers and hope I guess.

[edit] Any Aussie truckers here? I got road train experience and I'm wondering if they'll honour my licence there or would I need to
go to aussie trucker school?

Thanks CS, but things always were happening for me. The glass is 1/2 full.
I've got my 2 cars and the roof over my head paid for, my only monthly expenses
are rent, phone, net and I've got food in my belly and clothes on my back. As far as
life, AKA survival goes, I'm not for want, but I do realise how fortunate I am compared to
other places one could live in.

To be honest, I'm really nervous about even starting this process. 1 to 3 year contract...it
almost sounds like signing up for the military on a "tour of duty". That is to say, there's no getting out of it.
Can I commit that much of myself? Will I miss home? Not just that, but next to the UK, AU's gotta be the next
draconian of/in the Commonwealth. I've watched Oz over the past few years and their anti-terrorism laws etc
are far more "vigilient" than here in Kanuckistan. Canada's still relatively free... Oz aint. Howard is scum.

You also have to wonder why they need to recruit from outside Oz if it's such a great job...

Well, it might not be a case of Oz recruiting. It's more likely a case of a Canuck corp buying the
exploration rights on Oz turf.

If it is a case of Oz bringing in foreign workers, it's not uncommon for fledgling oil producing nations
to import expertise from outside.

Maybe they'd even request you going over to PNG - they paid you well for that, I'm sure.
