RE: Draw mohammed day
draw is hash, right? I know dope smugglers have been known to shape it into Ganesh the Hindu God but never heard of Mohammed hash statues. Novel. I'd smoke some. especially if it was Afghani.hmm

RE: Draw mohammed day
Islam has just as much right to speak about killing those that draw the images as people have the right to draw them. It is a collective attack against all muslims in retribution of the words of a few. This is just ignorant hatred, masked in a guise of upholding the freedoms that "they" hate us for...

Sounds exactly like a Bushism - and I want no fucking part of a Bushism.

There's been a lot of this ignorant Muslim bashing floating around the media these days - it seems like a focused campaign.

RE: Draw mohammed day
that somewhat eccentric edict forbidding his illustrated likeness is wide open for targeting imo.

I mean - "don't you dare draw him! don't draw the prophet!!" it is just asking for hilaarious consquences in the 21st century.

RE: Draw mohammed day
agreed, the ideas that are directly targeted by this campaign are pretty stupid and comical, as are most vehement edicts created by religions and taken up by the most fanatic in their midst... but that's what religion wants from its subscribers - It wants them believing strongly in unproven things to the point where they construct their entire existence and understanding of the world around those unproven things.

When one attempts to target people that are in the power of a mass-delusion, how can they expect their response be rational?

I guarantee that Trey Parker and Matt Stone had every intention of creating an irrational response in the first place - to point out how irrational that kind of edict is. but to respond at the level of attempting to inflame the entire community of irrational people, is, in itself either irrational or intentionally evil, because it's basically attempting to create a violent response from a group of people who've already proven that they're willing to at least vocalize death threats over a much more minute action.

Let's say you were sitting at a poker table... If you knew that one of the players hated everyone in the room to begin with, was in a frame of mind that death was salvation and paradise, had a bomb strapped to his body, and that the stakes of the game was his submission to the others that he hated, and you knew he was bluffing about his hand because you knew his tells - would you call his bluff, or fold your hand and leave the game? Is it really worth winning that game?

it's provocative satire. they shouldn't capitulate on a funny because of suicide bombers jmo
but I do acknowledge it in terms of the wider insidious narrative of vilifying the Islamic world as medieval I maybe should add..

agreed, they shouldn't have to capitulate, and I thoroughly enjoyed the episode of south park, and wish it hadn't been edited. but to take the response to that to this extreme is just rude and cruel, and the video clip above certainly doesn't seem like satire to me.

That's where most of my distaste in this subject comes from. I don't mind the two written pieces so much, and I understand their point, completely.

The analogy that I used above wasn't so much to tell people to tone down their sense of humor because they should be scared of the repercussions - It was more to show the position that they're putting the target of these actions in, and to get them to contemplate whether its worth their time to take this as seriously as they might otherwise...
The whole point of the south park episode was to take the issue of religious zealotry in a lighter way - this kind of campaign does the exact opposite.

People get burned playing with fire, yet they still do it. The way I see it, media advertising Islam, negatively or not, gets people interested in it, thus many new people converting to it, especially after 9/11. If these people just didnt want Islam in their lives, they would leave it alone. Yet, they still advertise it in various ways. I dont mind.
