RE: Life Extension: Geneticists Discover a Way to Extend Lifespans to 800 Years
regardless,
Yeast is all very well and good but it doesnt hold an organ together, every organ in your body, as with your skin has constant death of cells as a course for survival. having such cells last longer only promotes a cancer. genetic longevity is tracked to the gene itself. its the starting block that would need changing so the body can turn over more cells. this requires fixing the gene before birth.
making cells last longer probably prohibits cell division(reduced metabolism), this would mean we would simply not grow at the correct speed and you would in essense die from a bruise or any cell damage as the body would react too slowly.

Well consider consciousness transfer, isolated time stasis and cybernetic nano-technology to repair individual cells perhaps for those at the heights of power the future that is read about in science fiction novels is not only now but yesterdays technology.
I've seen official research papers on all of the above from University Programs, Professional Labs, Corporate Tech Companies and Military DARPA FIOA requests.
There is also organ harvesting, cloning, stem cell regrowth, plasma infusion and blood transfers feeding the life extension angle. Much of that is already in practice. Vampirism is a little too real in a twisted way already.
What would/is/could happen is that we have 2 tiered systems of the immortals and the fodder. The fodder only have a limited time to achieve the wealth and/or status to become immortals.
I'm sure it wouldn't be freely available to just anyone off the street and earning that 'right' to live longer would come with a price. That allure could cause some major social disruption at the bottom in clamouring for the "golden ticket" from people desperate for such a prize - life itself.
People have robbed, mobbed, murdered and even sacrificed their Soul and connection to Spirit for far less.
Let us hope that.. no work for - at least the majority of us who can muster up the ability to have the sack to stand up and be counted, rediscover a foundation of morality and set it down for our fellows to follow if there will can overcome.

repair individual cells
thats not how its going to happen. repairing would mean they were unintentionally damaged. cells HAVE to die in order for the new cells to take up the mantle.
Some oligarch might want to fund research into this all he likes but its one of those things. its not going to happen. unless we start altering human DNA before birth, this whole imortality angle will never be realised. thus anyone funding this to help themselves is onto a loser. good.

I know what you mean, but isn't the whole point of a world-wide web to prevent unnecessary duplication of effort?
So wouldn't it be better if "we" only funded "winners"? (Rhetorical).

all im talking about is on the point of immortality. im happy for scientists to get paid to do pointless things. we learn all kinds of pointless things as a result.

Hey, I'm new here, however, I do have a cell biology background, and when it comes to complex cells, when you fuck with any Ras orthologue, you're in a world of shit..

One of Cyber-Transhumanism's goal is selective life extension technologies and even uploading the brain digitally... but it could also work the other way around in eliminating the need for a large labour force in the new age technocracy.

by Susanne Posel
December 13, 2012
The eugenicists at The Royal Society, in conjunction with Academy of Medical Sciences, British Academy and Royal Academy of Engineering came together this month to discuss the potentials, opportunities and challenges of the melding of man with machine (i.e. transhumanism) under the guise of augmentation technologies.
....
Many transhumanist groups can be found throughout the world, such as the UK Transhumanist Association who believes that scientific research must be applied to answer questions of the human condition and bring substantial benefit to society. The Oxford Transhumanists promote “radical life extension, artificial intelligence, cognitive enhancement, existential risks and mind – uploading.”
The Future of Humanity Institute at the University of Oxford endeavors to answer the “big – picture questions about humanity and its prospects.”
These transhumanists favor the Singularity Summit, an annual extension of the Singularity Institute wherein robotics, artificial intelligence, brain – computer interfacing and [various] emerging technologies” into genetics and regenerative medicine are examined under the perspective of transhumanism.
