I'm pretty sure that audacity is only for audio... Switch is for audio in windows, it's free, and it works very quickly
avidemux is great for video in linux - barely anything you can't do, and free 4 ever!
in linux mint you can find it easily and have it auto-install through "software manager" - no package manager or terminal use necessary.

I have used Avid on Apples for some video projects and it's outstanding.

Audio format conversion - Switch is paying [edit: free for domestic only use], consider harnessing the power of FFmpeg in an elegantly small GUI (Windows and Linux) by using WinFF.
