Government Health Care: The Next Step On the Road to Tyranny and Slavery

Democrats deceptively argue that health care is legal under the commerce clause of the Constitution. The commerce clause relates to business, not individuals, but the Democrats have skewed the original purpose and intent of the Constitution.

When asked to point out where in the Constitution authority is granted to force an individual — ultimately at gunpoint — to buy government health care, Speaker of the House Pelosi said: “Are you serious?”

It is said Obama was a constitutional professor at the University of Chicago Law School (even this is a lie — he was in fact “a senior lecturer,” not a professor), so we should assume he has at least some knowledge of the principles of the Constitution. Obama likely knows that the Constitution does not mandate Americans be forced into a contractual agreement with a private party for health insurance.

Apparently, like his predecessor, Obama regards the Constitution as little more than a goddamn piece of paper.

“Nowhere in the Constitution is Congress given the power to mandate that an individual enter into a contract with a private party or purchase a good or service,” explains the Heritage Foundation. No decision or present doctrine of the Supreme Court justifies such a claim of power.

Is it possible Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have not read Article I of the Constitution? It states that the government’s rights are limited. Article 1, Section 8 reads, “The Congress shall have Power … To regulate Commerce with foreign nations, and among the several states, and with the Indian Tribes.” It does not say a word about health care. The federal government only has the power to regulate trade between itself, foreign governments, and the states. Period.

But then the government — including the Supreme Court — has chipped away at the Constitution for decades. Many of the most serious violations of the Constitution came under the reign of a supposed conservative Republican, George W. Bush.

The Democrat health care bill is merely the most recent and most egregious of those constitutional violations. Both parties – essentially the same party – excel at destroying our constitutional rights.

As recently as last week, there was hope this monstrosity in the Senate would die a natural death and hand a defeat to Obama and his big government statists in the House and Senate.

Now that senator Ben Nelson has sold his consent — for Medicaid money to Nebraska — it appears this bill will soon be a done deal.

In a few weeks, the federal government may be making your most important and private medical decisions. Get ready for health care on par with Cash for Clunkers.

Get ready to take the next step on the road toward government tyranny and slavery.

IF it is done correctly, public health care can be highly beneficial. Programs of this nature that can be better operated without the underlying profit motive. Alternatively you could have a system which relies on charity but funding would be unpredictable or you could supplement the a public system with charitable donations.

Locally we have the University of Alberta Hospital's Stollery Children's Hospital - it was a great hybrid of a private sector style management principles, government funding and charitable donations. Then Government cut back their monetary contribution and forced the centre to panhandle for operating expenses - the state it is in today.

Stollery Children's Hospital

In an ideal system IMO research and development of new treatment and drugs would be done via grants to universities and hospitals. Grants would be partially provided based on outcomes to simulate a free market demand curve. but funded more from a local / regional tax base to . The Canadian system was a good example of public health monies allocated correctly in many areas - it was just inadequately funded at 8% GDP most developed countries commit upwards of 12% to health care. Then of course politics got involved and full scale hospitals were being campaigned on, then built in rural areas and ultimately closed a decade or two later because of lack of utilization. Then there are necessary critical care units not keeping up with demand and even downsizing in multiple instances - the following being an example of this.

Long-term care demand rising in Alberta
Freeze on number of beds expected to add pressure

For quite some time now in Canada, a manufactured need to transition to more private health care services and insurance was enabled and covertly encouraged via legislation. Private industry recognized the huge potential profit to be made off of Canadian pain and suffering. It has been in motion since and traced back as far as 1984 when the Canada Health Act was amended to "not directly bar private delivery or private insurance for publicly insured services", thus creating a parallel system.

There has been a systematic de-insuring and re-classification of services such as MRI eye exams and even beneficial exams, treatments and medications. There has been a slow but consistent shift away from generic drugs, in part due to the fact they are paid off by big pharma as well to keep their product off of the market. This coupled with closure of public facilities to create a void that will ultimately be filled by private for-profit interest as was intended by those positioned to profit with the aid their government facilitators. The very people who were put in place to protect the system that intended affordable health care for all have betrayed it.

The US system still has a huge private component both in its insurance - even the regulatory boards have a net result is that they don't have the best effective health care system even though they pay twice as much per capita (~$6500 USD) as anyone else in the system. Obamacare just slaps on another layer of management (adding costs and rationing of care) and forces everyone to subscribe to a for-profit system.

One of the few responsibilities of a nation is to provide protection to its people. A health care system is part of that. A non-profit system run by real public representatives who are knowledgeable and qualified in their fields is the best way to deliver on that responsibility IMO. It should serve to keep costs down, intellectual protectionism, selective care and corporate manipulation down -- and communication, collaboration, affordability organization and coverage up. All of this needs to under a transparent and accountable mandate by the republic to avoid inherent problems such as catering/rationing resources to certain regions, demographics and companies. The corruption of power can be mitigated by having bottom heavy decision making at the local and regional levels and a federal responsibility to lubricate communication between these regions and propose framework solutions to benefit the people.
There are no others, there is only us.
