...on this area and others. Mind you early daze.

I'll try and dupe some stuff from concen old if relevent and locate new stuff from my archives. Done a fair bit of writing on this area.

...but I dunno how interested people would be in 23,000 word disertations on

'Psychedelics and their Impact on Western Society'
or even more obscure:
' Psychedelics and their Catalysing of Multi-Modal Hyper Communication'

:o ---> that's a yawn icon.

Hmmmm.

I'm getting the feeling that ConRes is attracting more the sorts who'd be into that sort of thing

I just feel alliegence here beacuse I swear occasionally [Also cos i use the tracker.] and on Cyphers site i feel i have to edit what i say. i have no issue with cussin' in the rare and right contexts - constant swearing looks bad and makes you look igorant BUT a good "fuck off" to someone annoying you can be really effective.

And I know every keeps telling me both are affiliated - but its going to polarise more in the future - this is my prediction and I got it from a NostrilDamus book.

We'll see.

Hi Shuffle:)
no need to worry about that - we have a very minor word filter change on CR that turns the output to "fcuk" instead. All this does is to keep everything under the radar of the ever-more aggressive search-engine filters (which can & do refuse to carry such content already - no need to wait for Internet 2!), yet still allows peoples' true opinions to be heard. We should all be aware though that sites such as these will be harder to find, and more difficult to access once Internet 2 is brought in - so we need to stay one step ahead of the game and to know the rules before this is imposed on us.

Nevertheless, you can still get your point across adequately, and not need to worry about trying to hold yourself in check. I would hope that this is more acceptable to people than the filters elsewhere that turn expressions of extreme annoyance into posts of purely comedic value: e.g. to turn someone's heartfelt annoyance into frequent mention of "sexual intercourse" (as happens on other, nameless, sites) is to my mind woefully inadequate, as far as an expression of passion and sentiment goes.

As far as telling someone to GTF, then you always have the option of robbing them of their reputation points, then putting them on "ignore" - so in effect you have the satisfaction of giving them a bloody nose & then refusing to acknowledge their presence. - a most distressing situation for a troll of any calibre;)

Please don't feel that you need to be holding yourself in check - there are far more interesting possibilities than that:)

 [these E-mote-Icons are much better!]

This is funny situation...

Hi Cypher - i didn't even think that you'd see this post... how do you find the time to get thru two sites worth??!?? :o

I think i just made a subconscious link from this particular topic area being empty, to what I could fill it with, to academic papers, [on non-academic areas... at least in 1993 it was - which is why they awarded me a 'Desmond' !] to which of the two forums would suit that stuff best.

Anyway - the system you describe is fine. I think I'd assumed from reading the conres intro thingy that

- All noob/l33t speak is discouraged [rightly so]
- All SMS/Text stuff is discouraged [rightly so moreso] - also, let's not discourage but BAN the use of "mate" and "m8" please, they annoy me for some reason, maybe i should get therapy on that]

and so i sort of assumed all swearing was not encouraged. now asking me to 'try' not to swear is a bit difficult so my main point was that this would make it harder to have any sort of - free flow thought/writing. Whereas maybe if the words are replaced and yet still kind of represent the core intent/meaning then nowts really lost is it? Are you sure you've got a big enough dictionary for replacements...?? Only kidding. Looks like you've looked into it and found a fair, workable option or two.

Thanks for the response, may drop a thesis in sometime soon - you'll know when too because the assigned forum space on your host will decrease by a third :)

NB: I did test out the + and - and ignore things on conres. Very nifty. I was also going to "report" Chis C for his blog being too popular... but I guess that's what's called incorect use of facilities.?!?

I find this thread kind of funny and interesting. Certainly both sites have their own flavor... that's what makes them different and both useful in their own unique right. IMO CR is a place of study... like a library, and CC is barroom where you can overhear some interesting snatches of conversation people don't usually voice when they know others are listening. Let's not compare apples an oranges, but taste both and be happy.

Oh yeah... fcuk "THEM"!

LMAO - I always did appreciate your sense of humour;)

Shuffle, it's not two, but three sites I keep an eye out for - Dylan's place is also dear to my heart.

As you mention - "Txt spk" does have its place, between m8s (:P) who know each other well, but this has little place on a public forum, I think - simply because it does nothing to endear others, nor bring them into any conversation.

Myself, I will speak nothing but broad - and I do mean broad Scots, given the choice - and, living in Glasgow, swearing is a form of punctuation to me;)
Hence why I know, first-hand, how off-putting this can be for others.

I certainly agree though:- Mike, we need more emoticons on here - the present range is limited as hell!

PS - even though CR might be more like a library, there's still no need to whisper!

Good analog to the pub [bar] and research place.

Mike CTRL makes a good landlord too. Evicts the occasionally troublemaker, has the odd tipple himself and is untrusting of new patrons to the venue until they buy regular drinks and socially embedd themselves with the other locals.

Although I think ther are a few of the regs he hasn't quite taken to cos we buy tap-water and not beer.

That was all an allegory, but I just re-read it and it was crap.
