After An Install Of Protowall And Blm
So a while back I brought home a new pc and I'm pretty lazy so I decide not to bother with my old p2p progs except bittorent and my newsgroup reader. My fav irc channel disappeared and I pretty much only use our tracker so I put off installing Protowall and BLM. Well looky at what I get logged when I finally do! And all day long too I might add.

Packet from "CHINANET henan province network" ( 222.88.148.170 ) rejected. [protocol: UDP - src: 15207 / dst: 23682]

Packet to "CHINANET henan province network" ( 222.89.29.223 ) blocked. [protocol: UDP - src: 23682 / dst: 20110]

So I google this crap and I get this evangelical type and amidst all his bible study stuff he has this little page that he put up after he found pretty much the same thing using Norton:

After reconfiguring my Norton Firewall into the "Custom" mode, I was able to capture this information from attempts to access My Computer. During a span of 1 hour, I received more than 151 attempts to access My Computer from this ONE LOCATION in China. The Particular IP below was just the most recent intrusion attempt. If you will notice the Reverse IP: it states that "No websites hosted using this IP address". So what does this mean -- it means that China has an extensive database of IP addresses whose only purpose is to get into Computers so as to steal, upload invisible files, embed BHO's, and piggy-back your system to view into other systems or sites that you visit. Are you a victim of such activity? If you are not protected then you are part of their WICKED SCHEME.

So my question is: Was I being tapped? Is this guys info correct? And btw that src 23682 port is the one used by bittorrent and beides that I'm wired up to a router. So what's up here?

Oh yeah and I wasn't even running anything, just sitting there staring at my desktop with PW going.

Thanks,

FP

Ummm, I mean I'm using BitComet...

Anyway I had installed BComet a while ago for no reason, found better speeds with it so left it alone, including the default listening port of 23682. Now I've changed that setting and matched my permissive for the router and my firewall and now my firewall is blocking UDP traffic from various ip's every 2 secs.

Had some evil mothers taken the default setting of BitComet and are using it for evility?

Over thew past year I've noticed nonstop port probes by Chinese IPs usually registered to the "CNC Group". I've seen these probes on multiple machines at multiple locations meaning it is some kind of wide-spread operation.
&Having raised the earth's temperature 1 degree Fahrenheit in the last three decades, we're facing another increase of 4 degrees over the next century. That would imply changes that constitute practically a different planet. It's not something we can adapt to. We can't let it go on another 10 years like this.& - NASA's Goddard Space Institute Director James Hansen

Yeah, now I've got the same business going on by Chinanet on the old torrent port and my newly assigned one. Actually that old port is getting nailed. My new port is seeing some of the same visitors like:

" Sony Network Taiwan Limited" ( 61.64.102.80 )
"Ministry of Education Computer Center" ( 140.115.66.144 )
"Dreamwave Shizuoka Co., Ltd." ( 202.94.187.220 )

Only now I've go some new friends:

"Bengbu Policeman" ( 211.141.162.158 )
"Bulgarian Government Network" ( 212.122.182.241 )

Blocked, but still...

Most of those if not all of them are false alarms. Someone was just downloading the same torrent than you and because of the same reason than you. That is not a good reason not to use PeerGuardian or other program like that, but there is no reason for stress or nightmares.

I'm not a big porn movie fan, but I have heard that downloading those with BitTorrent client can be a great way to cooperate with government officials around the world...
