New Element 'ununoctium' Discovered
Scientists Add New Element 'Ununoctium' to Periodic Table

A collaboration of US and Russian scientists have announced that they have detected a new element - number 118. The creation of 3 atoms of Ununoctium, each lasting under 1/1000th of a second, have been confirmed.

The discovery of element 118 was first claimed by Lawrence Berkeley lab in 1999 but the claim was retracted after a scientist had falsified evidence. Element 118 is the another step in the search for a stable super-heavy element.

Researchers say that the discovery of more elements is likely but that eventually there will come a point at which heavier atoms will simply be too heavy to exist. That barrier is possibly somewhere between Element 120 and 135.

The structure of capitalism is flawed. The motor that powers it cannot but vastly increase the disparity between the poor and the rich globally and within countries as well. Parecon is a brave argument for replacing that flawed machine and offers a much needed -- more equitable, democratic, participatory -- alternative economic vision.

Dr. Hermann Oberth who pioneered rocket design for the German Reich during World War II and later advanced rocket technology for the American manned space launches, cryptically stated: "We cannot take the credit for our record advancement in certain scientific fields alone; we have been helped."

When asked by whom, he replied: "The people of other worlds."
