I made an account, originally, with the intention of thanking those who post torrents from C0medy Central, for without such posts I wouldn't be able to watch some of my favorite shows, since I'm living overseas, working on my doctoral research.

But after perusing some of the topics, I think I'll stick around a while and see what I can learn (or teach) about the psychological characteristics of group conformity, especially as seen in Zionism, a topic I take very seriously. In particular, I find the connection between postmodern ideology--such as so-called neopragmatism (Rorty, Davidson, Fish, and the like)--and justifications of us-vs.-them group formation--Zionism, Nazism, and various forms of fundamentalism--useful and illuminating; useful because one can protect oneself from those they suspect are affiliated with a group and illuminating because this connection often sheds light on contemporary means-ends justifications used by the Bush administration and other, contemporary moral philosophers. The relationship between these domains has been developed solely through my own research, so I look forward to hearing others discuss their findings on the same topic.

In fact, my research has led to specific names, some of whom are still working today and likely appealing to a means justifies the ends calculi in their daily actions, such as obstructing those who would threaten their academic power (e.g., biasing graduate committees against Young Turks threatening their ideologies, biasing the peer review process of academic journals, discouraging undergraduate exploration of antithetical subjects, etc.).

One name that I'll mention now, since he's no longer with us, is Isaiah Berlin. I both admire and repudiate his work. He's a brilliant writer and rhetorician, and on rare occasions I agree with him. What's interesting about his work is that he's a staunch advocate of liberty and pluralism while at the same time, seemingly paradoxically, a devout Zionist. It is my view, however, that once you understand postmodern, relativistic moral frameworks, you realize it's not a paradox at all--rather, the paradigms of Berlin, Rorty, Davidson, Fish, Barbara H. Smith, etc., actually account for and explicitly justify an invidious type of Machiavellinism, or a proximal justification of at times violent obstruction based on a distal, dogmatic devotion to an ideology, Zionism being one example. The covert forms of social control stemming from postmodern (or historically similar ideologies) are at once fascinating and disturbingly haunting.

There you have it, my (verbose) introduction. Oh, and I almost forgot: danke für die Fernsehshows teilend (thanks for sharing the shows).

welcome to concen, i'm glad you decided to stick around and not get scared off like most the colbert DLers.
The belief in 'coincidence' is the prevalent superstition of the Age of Science.

&I don't understand why you're taking such a belligerant tone when you're obviously the ignorant one here. &

Interesting doctoral research you're doing there. Are you doing your research in Germany?

Thanks for the welcome. Actually, my research has nothing to do with the aforementioned subjects, and as much as I like Germany, no, I'm not.

Nice to meet you, namenlos. I boil it down to the destructive influence of the lies people believe. Doesn't matter whether they're Zionist or whatever. There's plenty of lies for all!
Don't believe anything they say.
And at the same time,
Don't believe that they say anything without a reason.
